Topics: General | No Comments » Kiev Shoppers Beware… By Nicholas | May 24, 2007 For those of you who have recently moved to Kiev, please be aware that many of the small local merchants will cheat you on the weight of your purchase by 200-300 grams on every kilogram. In the case of frozen fish, unscrupulous merchants add frozen water weight. Also be aware that many of the sellers at the farmer’s markets, such as Besarabska, will also cheat on the weight, especially when they see that you are a Westerner. This habit is a left-over from Communism and has become a part of their genes. What can you do to avoid being taken? A couple of things – one is carry a small weight scale with you and verify your purchase, before paying. The other thing you can do, is shop only at large supermarket chains, such as MegaMarket .
