The guests of live studio talk-show, aired by Inter on November, the 16th , in the frame of Great Ukrainians TV project, discussed the criteria by which the greats are to be chosen as well as the attributes allowing a man to be considered as Ukrainian. The talk-show announces the start of national voting for Top-100 prominent people of Ukraine.
During the three hours the audience of two hundred people, representing by gender, geography and social status the whole Ukraine, worked out the criteria for great Ukrainians. The representatives of Guarantors' Board - well-known Ukrainian scientists, sportsmen, historians and politicians - took an active part in discussions.
The presenters of the show Anna Gomonay and Savik Shuster submitted to the audience the following three criteria of a Ukrainian -"land" (the place of birth), "blood" (the origin) and "language" (should the candidate speak Ukrainian).
No limitations
Choosing the criteria has caused hot discussions. For example, the famous comic Zelenskyi expressed that language was not the matter, as Andriy Shevchenko made Ukraine famous using the language of football, the brothers Klichko using the language of box, etc. Something in the comic's words has caused the ex-speaker of Ukrainian Parliament Volodymyr Lytvyn to explode. Fortunately, the presenters were there and quickly extinguished the fire.
Finally, the audience and speakers came to the decision to refuse from any limitations when choosing the greats. Thus everyone, who lives in Ukraine has the chance to vote for any person, which according to his opinion made the great impact to the history of our country.
åach member of Board named the person he considers to be the Greatest Ukrainian. It also caused controversial discussions. The leader of political party 'Narodna Samooborona' (People's Self-Defence) proposed to exclude the famous writer Mykola Gogol from the list of greats for the fact that he portrayed the Ukrainians in a comic way. Dmytro Tabachnyk, the minister for humanitarian issues, was absolutely against Roman Shukhevych, as to his mind, nobody who ever wore the nazi uniform had the right to call himself a Ukrainian. The leader of communists' Petro Simonenko championed the person of ... Vladimir Lenin, as to his mind he made a lot for Ukraine to become independent.
The Voice from Space
The hot disputes were calmed out by the voice from space as talk show also included the live 12-minutes broadcast from International Space Station, for the first time in the history of Ukrainian television. The space speaker, Russian astronaut of Ukrainian origin, Youry Malenchenko took part in the discussion.
