Июль 18th, 2007 by allisansursal
By Kathleen Terrana Looking your best on your wedding day is not as hard as you may think. Here are some helpful suggestions to help you look your best. Walk briskly around the block once in the morning and again at night. You will burn an additional 200-300 calories each day. Each twice as many fresh fruits and vegetables, than you eat on most days. Have a salad before lunch and dinner. If a salad at lunch is not possible, put chopped carrots, broccoli and cauliflower in a container to take to work. A great low calorie dip is KRAFT FREE Fat Free Ranch Dressing, at 48 calories in a 2 tablespoon serving. Substitute oatmeal or whole grain cereal for dinner three nights a week. Eat whole grain bread, rice and pasta. Complex carbohydrates are filling, and full of fiber and other nutrients. Drink a cup of hot green tea before each meal. It will help suppress your appetite, and the antioxidants will help fight viruses, slow aging, lower blood pressure, and blood sugar. Try to eliminate cookies, pies, doughnuts, cake and ice cream, if possible. Avoid fast food restaurants. If you must, treat yourself to a regular portion of fries, at 210 calories. When dining out, make a salad your dinner meal. Items to avoid at salad bars are croutons, bacon bits, creamy dressings, and salads made with mayonnaise. When you’re alone, put on your favorite music and dance. If you are having fun, you will do it much longer, and with more intensity than your normal workout. A woman weighing 123 pounds doing low impact aerobic dancing will burn approximately 240 calories in 30 minutes. The same woman will burn 282 calories for high impact aerobic dancing for 30 minutes. Switch plates. Eat your dinner on a salad sized plate, and your salad on a dinner plate. If you absolutely must have ice cream, try serving it in a small desert bowl instead of a cereal bowl. Cut back drastically on these food items: Bacon Butter Cream cheese Margarine Mayonnaise Salad dressing Shortening Sour Cream Vegetable Oil The Calorie Control Council at www.caloriecontrol.org, has information on cutting calories and fat in your diet. Plastic Recycling Confusion
Июль 16th, 2007 by allisansursal
By David Leonhardt CONSUMER ALERT: do not mix your food container lids. A yogurt container lid is NOT the same as a margarine container lid, even if they look the same. How do I know this? Well, here is my story. We live in a very hoity-toity county. Sure, it might look like just farm country. A lot of the houses might seem a little worse for wear. But we are very picky about what plastic we recycle. We recycle only those numbered 1 and 2. In case you did not know, your plastics are numbered. On the bottom of most containers, there is a number, usually from 1 to 5. I suppose 1 is the best, since anything with a number of 3 or more just is not high-class enough for us to recycle. Sooner or later, it was bound to happen. My overactive curiosity got the better of me and I emptied the fridge to try to figure out this plastic numbering thing. What else does one do in the middle of the night when his newborn doesn’t want to sleep? My wife came down to the kitchen. “What on earth are you doing?” “Just snacking,” I replied. She scanned the table, covered with yogurt, hand cream, cream cheese, plum sauce, juice, shampoo, and an empty ice cream bucket. “OK, I’m not actually eating any of these,” I admitted. “I’m looking for numbers on the bottom to see which of these containers is high-class enough for us to recycle.” “You are NOT recycling our brand new tub of margarine,” my wife declared. “And that juice jug is supposed to last us a few more years.” “Of course,” I said in my most believable comforting tone. “It’s just a curiosity thing. “Oh, one of those,” my wife sighed. “You see, both the yogurt and margarine containers are made of PP.” “PP?” my wife asked. “Yes, PP. Plastic number 5, also called Polypropylene.” “Oh. That’s a relief.” “But the lids are not the same. The yogurt top is a number 4, whereas the margarine top is a number 2.” “You mean the lids are not made of the same plastic as the containers?” my wife exclaimed. “Exactly,” I replied. “And not the same as each other. There must be a reason they use for the yogurt top a plastic of such poor upbringing that our recycling program rejects it. It might be dangerous to mix them up.” “That’s silly.” “Then why else would they need three different plastics for two simple containers that are used for essentially the same purpose under the same conditions?” My wife turned around to leave. “Wait,” I cried. “There’s more.” “I was afraid of that.” “The parfait container has no number. Does that mean it’s undercover? The lid is a 4, which means we can switch it with the yogurt lid, but not with the margarine lid.” “The parfait container is clear. You can see through it. Maybe they can’t recycle see-through plastics.” “Exactly what I thought,” I exclaimed. “But look at your shampoo. It’s in a clear bottle, a number 1. But the matching conditioner, which is not clear, is in a number 2.” “That makes sense,” my wife assured me. “Maybe.” “Not really. Number 2 is used in the margarine lid, the big ice cream bucket and the vitamin jar. Besides, here is another margarine container made of clear plastic, and it is also a 5 with a 4 lid.” “This is way too confusing,” my wife said. “We have a baby to attend to. She just can’t seem to sleep.” “With all our containers mixed up like this, who knows what the world is coming to,” I cried. “No wonder she can’t sleep.” About The Author The author is David Leonhardt, The Happy Guy. The Roar of the Lamb - Why Christians Should Hold a Balanced View of God
Июль 9th, 2007 by allisansursal
By Lee Wilson One thing I’ve noticed in working with churches around the country is that many Christians have an unbalanced view of God. In today’s culture of tolerance, many have assumed God is just as tolerant and unbothered by sinful behavior as is politically correct at the moment. We’ve presented a picture of God as being full of grace, love and peace–and that’s correct, but what about the “Lion” part of God? He is, afterall, the “Lion” (Revelation 5:5) and the “Lamb” (Revelation 5:12). Would some among our Christian community have such a sense of entitlement to God and everyone else if we dusted off some of the other pages in our Bibles that tell of an almighty, powerful, even dangerous God? Solomon said, “This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man” (Ecclesiastes 12:13). “Fear God” is certainly not a popular command now days. It sounds too offensive, archaic and unenlightened for many of our pulpits. But Solomon said it was part of our “duty” as human beings. Matthew 10:28 says, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew is quoting Jesus in this passage and note that He (Jesus) tells us to “be afraid” of God. The worst villain in a horror movie can’t send anyone to hell, but God can. A healthy dose of fear helps put things in perspective and Jesus advised us to remember who we are to really fear. I wish I could be poetic and use pretty words to say that the fear we should have for God is not the kind of fear we see displayed in movies like Jason and Freddie Kruger. But my definition is fairly similar. As the Bible says, “It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31). God has the power to destroy me, and I deserve it. Even if I didn’t deserve it, there is no earthly court or lawyer to defend me–I am absolutely helpless and powerless. That fact about God will never disappear. Even with His breathtaking love, mercy and grace, He is still the God who decided He would kill Abraham in the night, but changed His mind because of Sarah’s pleading. He is the God who flooded the earth in order to kill every human except for one family. When I was in college, it was very trendy for Theology majors to write about the grace and love of God. They often wrote short articles that seemed to be love letters. There’s certainly nothing wrong with that and I think it is a great thing to do. But respect for entering into God’s presence seemed to be diluted as people started viewing God as a grandfatherly figure so desperate for our time and attention that He overlooked our sins. Don’t misunderstand–I stand in awe of the love of God and can’t put into words the love I have for Him. But I am also afraid of Him because His power is so much beyond any monster or super hero I could possibly imagine. So when temptation parades itself in front of me, I have an easier time turning it away because I fear God. There are other reasons including the fact that I love God and don’t want to hurt Him by my actions. But I also fear Him because I know that He holds the right to my next breath. Perhaps that’s what Jesus meant when He said, “..be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” The difference between my fear of God and the fear shown in horror movies is that God is not hunting me down. He’s not chasing me to kill me. His love propelled Him to die for me and He wants a relationship with me, but His power is far beyond Freddie or Jason and for that, I fear Him. But I love Him as well. He is the ultimate being in all of existence and I am a peanut shell under His mighty foot. That fact isn’t exactly poetic or pretty, but it’s reality and accepting that helps me serve Him better. I love Him, but I fear Him too. I constantly struggle for balance and I think we should all strive to view God as He is entirely without removing the parts we don’t like. ============================================================ Note: This article may be freely reproduced on other websites as long as the AUTHOR’S resource box at the bottom of this article is included and all links are active with no syntax changes. Marketing Basics - Creating Infrastructure
Июль 7th, 2007 by allisansursal
By Rick Sheldon Do you know of a colleague or peer that has built a business around just one or two clients? For the duration of their working relationship and current projects, the company is able to subsist solely off of these few customers. However, as these deals come to culmination, a business owner may begin to question how they will exist thereafter. If the one or two existing clients fail to provide any more work for the company, there could be trouble. Of course, having other clients would be ideal. Perhaps this certain business has been too busy to think about building a larger clientele base; on the other hand, perhaps the business lacked the know-how. This same business could have been presented with multiple opportunities to promote itself in different ways. Maybe those in charge were unsure of how or in what way to respond to such opportunities. Either way, having a marketing infrastructure in place is essential in such a scenario- for any business. Losing business due to a lack of a marketing infrastructure is really unnecessary. Your companys marketing infrastructure is based on all of the components which generate new prospective customers and turn them into solid clients. Once established, your marketing infrastructure assumes a power of its own that works for you continuously. It doesnt need monitored or adjusted on a daily basis; it allows you to focus your energies on the production part of your field. Sure, it may need tweaked or evaluated now and then, but having a regular plan saves resources and encourages a more steady revenue. The following are examples of some of the marketing infrastructure you should think about putting into place. Leads can be created multifariously. One of the most helpful ways to inform the public is through engagements like seminars. Educated business leaders know the importance of teaching people about their work. A percentage of those that attend and learn about the services or products you offer do become contacts. Even making the commitment to stage such events sets in motion publicity. Brochures and marketing materials begin to circulate, and some who choose not to attend still connect with the presenting business based on information that they have obtained. Another added bonus of leading seminars is the expansion of the mailing list. Of course, networking can open unexpected doors. Some people are reluctant to get into this whole process; nevertheless, it is worthwhile. Even if you choose to only involve yourself in a two or three engagements per month, those few can seriously pay off. Besides making generating new leads a priority in your business, consider your existing communication and how effective it is for the public to reach your business. First of all, your contact information should remain stable, even if your space tends to move every so often. Have a permanent post office box for mail and install an unchanging phone number. How efficient is your fax machine? You do have a fax machine, dont you? It should operate on a separate line that is available at all times. Having a 1-800 number is also wise. It demonstrates an image of largeness, stability, and readiness. Having an email address is mandatory in the twenty-first century. So many people lean toward communicating online because of the ease and speed of the process. Choose an address that you plan to keep constant. And, all of these items of information should be published in every bit of your materials. Make it part of your protocol to stay prepared and ready to respond to customers. Keep all brochures and catalogs updated and in print. Also develop a statement of qualifications (an SOQ) on your computer. This way you can attach it to emails as well as print it and fax it as needed. Include your biography, previous accomplishments, workshop experience, and achievements and recognition. Maintain your mailing list. Keep it current by editing it with new contacts that call or email for information. Your mailing list is an incredibly useful tool that can be utilized to connect with previous contacts on a regular basis. Through it you can alert your network of new information, upcoming events, specials, or changes in your business. Anytime your company hits a slow spot, referring to the mailing list gives you a fresh start in touching base with your patrons. Make it easy on yourself. Use the aforementioned strategies to help cement a marketing infrastructure that needs little maintenance. By setting the proper wheels in motion, you can relax knowing that leads are always forthcoming. High Risk Auto Loans
Июль 5th, 2007 by allisansursal
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Connie_Barker]Connie Barker It is one of the things people need the most, a car. Without a car your whole world stops and you are at the mercy of friends or public transportation. So what if you need a car but your credit is bad? Is this where you stop and give up hope? The answer is no, even those with bad credit can obtain transportation. There are many lenders to choose from when trying to find someone to finance a car when your credit is bad; the key to finding them is research. The name of those who will lend you money for a vehicle even though your credit is bad is high risk auto lenders. They usually require more information than traditional lenders and they usually sport higher interest rates but in the end they will loan you that money for a vehicle. It is usually easier to purchase a newer vehicle with a high risk auto loan because the lender wants the vehicle to be worth the chance they take. If the vehicle is newer the resell value on it is higher and thus the risk is lower. So not only are your chances good that you may walk away with a vehicle but probably a better one then you originally thought. One of the things to consider when taking out a high risk auto loan is that the interest rate will be higher then a bank loan. This is the price the consumer pays for the loan company taking a chance on them. Sometimes interest can be as high as 29 or 30 percent which drives the payments up as well, but once again it is a high risk loan and this is one of the catches to having to take one out. Another issue for those who are taking out a high risk auto loan face is having to make higher down payments. Again this just ensures the loan company that you are fully invested in the purchase of the car. Of course a higher down payment will also lower your regular payments to some degree too so it may not be such a bad idea after all. So anyone can purchase a vehicle no matter what their credit, it is just a matter of doing the research to find the right loan for you. Turbocharge New Sales with a Marketing Database
Июль 3rd, 2007 by allisansursal
By Lori Feldman What is the most valuable asset your company owns? Inventory? Equipment? Employees? If youve got customers, your number one asset is your customer list. Youve heard the old adage, Its 5 times easier to sell an existing customer than to find a new one. Selling an existing customer is easy because youve got the right message at the right time going to the right customer. There are two proven ways to do this. First, you position yourself as the obvious expert and ask for your deserved referrals and for the next sale. Second, you practice solid customer relationship management and mine your database for all that its worth. The first way is passive and takes a really long time. The second way actively places you on your customers radar and keeps you top of mind for his next buying decision. But if your customer information resides in 10 different places, like your accounting software, Excel spreadsheets, little Post-It notes on your monitor and a PDA, youve greatly diminished or erased your ability to be there for your number one asset when hes ready to buy again. Take this 12-point true/false quiz to see if youre prepared to profit from your database. Give yourself 1 point for each true answer: 1. I collect complete contact information (name, address, phone numbers and email address) on every customer who buys from me 2. I collect complete contact information (name, address, phone numbers and email address) on everyone who inquires about my services 3. I keep all my contacts in a single database 4. I keep track of how each customer or prospect found me so I can duplicate my successes and thank my referral sources 5. I have an easy-to-use automated response tool to follow up with prospects before, during and after the sale so I never lose an opportunity because it fell through the cracks 6. I have an easy-to-use system to cross sell my customers on my other services because I track what they bought previously 7. I have a system to track opt-outs to my email campaigns so I can stay in CAN-SPAM compliance with my e-marketing 8. I can forecast my sales for the next week, month or quarter based on opportunities in my sales pipeline 9. I have a customer database clean-up plan to update my contact information at least once per year 10. I have an effective system for tracking open and closed customer service issues 11. I can download leads from my website and schedule a call back for myself in 1 hour or lesseveryday! 12. It takes me one hour or less to launch an important email campaign to my customers. What Your Score Means If you scored a 7 or less, youre working way too hard for business and leaving money on the table. Most likely, youre developing one account at a time instead of creating a sales process that can run on auto-pilot until someone is ready to buy from you. While thats certainly the way most of us were taught to get more business, and its been done like that for decades, its not a very efficient use of your time, or a very profitable way to spend your day, or much fun. If you scored an 8 or above, youre doing a great job of marketing to and reselling your existing customers. You should look for new sales opportunities with a targeted prospect list or try online advertising. Redouble your efforts with existing customers. Customers think of you as a trusted friend and treat your communications as information, not advertising. A good customer contact program includes 12-18 touches per year. Unresolved? Set Powerful Goals Instead
Июнь 30th, 2007 by allisansursal
By Michelle May, M.D. If you’re like most people, your New Year’s resolutions are now just a dim memory of good intentions shared over a glass of champagne. Dont give up or feel guilty. There’s still time for a fresh start. First, forget resolutions and think goal setting instead Start by taking a bird’s eye view of your life. What’s working? What’s not? Your challenges offer your greatest opportunity for growth. The next step for setting powerful goals is to recognize what’s most important to you. For example, if spending time with your family and advancing your career are high priorities, then your goal to lose fifteen pounds must be aligned with those priorities. So if losing weight means healthier meals with your family and increased productivity and confidence at work, youre more likely to stay on track and motivated. Picture yourself achieving your goals Now, close your eyes and picture what it will be like as you make changes. How will you feel when you eventually achieve your goal? What will your life be like? Picture yourself taking the necessary steps and successfully building new habits into your lifestyle. With this clear vision in mind, write down your goals using positive, inspiring words. For example, instead of writing “I will stop eating junk food,” write “I will eat more healthfully so I’ll feel better and live longer.” Create a three-part action plan Now take your written goals and break them into at least three small, specific, action steps. Be sure you write down each step and when you plan to accomplish it. Instead of “I will lose fifteen pounds,” you could write, “I will eat five servings of fruits and vegetables every day, starting today. I will walk for ten minutes during my breaks at work twice a day by next month. I will write down at least five enjoyable activities that I can use to distract myself instead of overeating by next week.” At this point, review your steps to make sure that they are realistic. For example, people give up on their weight loss efforts because they try to restrict their diet too much. This leads to feelings of deprivation and rebound overeating and guilt. Learn from your past mistakes and follow an eating plan that includes your favorite foods and allows you to eat when you’re hungry. Once you’re satisfied with your action plan, put your written goals where youll see them often. You might set them on your bedside table, write them on your mirror in felt tip pen (as long as it isn’t a permanent marker) or tape them to your computer monitor. Your written action steps give your brain a map to follow. Decide if you’ll need new tools or support to achieve your goals Maybe there’s a book that would help or a support group you could join. Perhaps you could ask a friend to be your “accountability partner” and make arrangements to check in with each other on a weekly basis. Anticipate possible set-backs and create a plan for overcoming likely obstacles When you make mistakes, treat yourself the way you would your best friend. Be nonjudgmental and encouraging rather than harsh and shaming. Dont expect yourself to be perfect; it’s not possible or necessary. Assess your progress regularly If you’ve reached your goal, repeat the process to take yourself to the next level. If you haven’t, reassess your goal and plan. Was it realistic and aligned with your priorities? Did you outline small, specific steps? How did you handle the unavoidable challenges? What did you learn and what will you do differently this time? Last, but most importantly, enjoy the process Improving your life is exciting, but living your life is even better. Celebrate all of the small steps along the way. Make your goals happily achieved, not achieved to by happy. Michelle May, M.D. is a recovered yoyo dieter and the award-winning author of Am I Hungry? What To Do When Diets Dont Work.
