This will inform the entire sector on training and informational resources available to increase their competitiveness. The purpose will be to introduce the UBI, its methodology, experience in the field, hear reports from Eastern Ukrainian consultants who have used it in the field, and share views on the future of Best Practice Benchmarking in Ukraine. January 29, 2007 UBI – Ukrainian Benchmarking Index Conference Kyiv, Ukrainsky Dim The Ukrainian Benchmarking Index was officially launched at a conference conducted at Kyiv’s Ukrainsky Dim. At the conference the UBI was introduced along with a review of its experience in the field, and reports from UBI consultants who have used it. Dissemination Seminar for Wine Industry Enterprises of Odesa Oblast Hotel Tsentralny, Odesa December 12, 2006 The final PSD Project seminar for Odesa wine industry companies was held on December 12, 2006. Oblast officials concerned with wine sector development and wine companies attended and received information on initiatives in sales development, wine quality improvement, contacts of wine traders, distributors and suppliers, etc. A CD including all information was distributed free-of-charge to all attendees. Dissemination Seminar for Stone Industry Enteprises of Zhytomyr Oblast Zhytomyr Oblast Administration June 20, 2006 The final PSD Project seminar for Zhytomyr stone industry companies was held on June 20, 2006. Zhytomyr oblast officials, representatives of the Ukrainian Stone Exporters Association (USEA), and other interested companies and parties participated in the seminar. Participants received a summary of initiatives conducted under the Project as well as a free-of-charge CD with useful information such as international stone characteristics, stone traders agents, transport rules, quality specifications, and standard contracts. This four-year project is supported by the Department for International Development (DFID) of the UK Government. The contractor is the UK consulting company Emerging Market Economics Ltd. The main Project partner is the State Committee for Regulatory Policy and Entrepreneurship (SCURPE). Project Goal: Sustainable economic growth through private sector development. Project Purpose: Improving the competitiveness of Ukrainian medium sized businesses. The Project has three distinct initiatives: 1) support to business clusters; 2) launch of the first Ukrainian Benchmarking Index; 3) assistance to improve the business enabling environment. The Project team consists of Ukrainian and international experts who have significant experience working with transitional and developing economies at both micro- and macro-levels.
