[default.htm] Home | Sitemap | Contact Us Business Roundtable Series The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation sponsors Business Roundtable Series events that focus on Ukraine's business development, prospects for sustained economic growth, and current trends in different sectors of the Ukrainian economy. The Series provides person-to-person interaction among members of the global business community. Food Industry Morgan Williams of the USUF Advisory Board presents executives of the Ukrainian food industry The first in the Series, entitled "Food Industry in Ukraine," was held at the Embassy of Ukraine in July 2002. Guests and executives of major food companies in Ukraine, addressed recent and forthcoming economic and legal reforms relative to the sector, current trends in food-related industries, and comparative advantages of investing in food and agribusiness in Ukraine. Book Presentation Michael Bleyzer presents his publication to Nadia McConnell, USUF President The second presentation by Michael Bleyzer, President of SigmaBleyzer, and Edilberto Segura, SigmaBleyzer's Chief Economist took place in October 2002 at the Embassy of Ukraine. Speakers presented findings from their just-published work, "The Bleyzer Initiative: Completing the Economic Transition in FSU Countries." "The Bleyzer Initiative" is an action-oriented plan, methodology and a set of tools designed to accelerate the completion of the transition from centrally planned economies to market economies by the fifteen countries of the former Soviet Union. Ambassador Konstyantyn Gryshchenko welcomed the more than 70 representatives from government, private industry, and nonprofit sector who attended. Information Technology Ihor Gawdiak of USUF (left) presents Lyubomyr Oliynyk of Lionsoft Information technology businessmen were featured at a third Business Roundtable event, "Information Technology in Ukraine," held on October 17, 2002. Discussion centered on a new vision regarding the development of the information technology sector in Ukraine, current trends in information technology industries, particularly software development, and comparative advantages of the Ukrainian IT industry. Dmytro Lendel, Head of the Software Department of Elikom Ltd. in Uzhhorod,Ukraine, and Lyubomyr Oliynyk, Senior Project Manager of Lionsoft in Lviv, Ukraine, reviewed a number of characteristics which they felt make the Ukrainian IT and software development sector very attractive to investors. Among the features mentioned were low labor costs, the availability of highly qualified programming specialists, technical excellence, R&D focus, experience with complicated projects, strategic location, ability to work under rapidly changing business and technology conditions, Western culture, and availability of local professional associations. The breakfast attracted more than 30 representatives from the U.S. and foreign governments, the business community, and nonprofit industries. Minister-Counselor Volodymyr Yatsenkiwsky & Yaroslav Voitko, Chief of Trade and Economic Mission, of the Embassy of Ukraine made opening remarks and Ihor Gawdiak, a member of the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation's Advisory Board, moderated the discussion.
