[] Open Hands Ukraine Heart to God ~ Hand to Man December 21, 2005 Reaching Kyiv's Forgotten Youth Our desire is to stay close to the heart of God ; caring for orphans, widows, those in prison and in need. ( Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1: 27 ) Since Tree of Life's very beginning, Open Hands has been involved in humanitarian projects such as book donations to orphanages, prisons and a rehabilitation home for street kids. Open Hands is now partnering with those already actively ministering to Kyiv's forgotten youth. These young people have lived on the streets and their problems are deep and multi-layered and cannot be erased by simply placing them in a home. It has been said that it is a misnomer to call such people "homeless" as it implies that if they just had a home all their problems would be solved. Many have already been in homes, shelters and rehab centers and have returned to the streets for a myriad of reasons. Our goal is to seek Jesus Christ, putting Him first in all things. Leaders in this ministry, and our new partners, Anatoly Larin and Michelle Knisley are working to introduce these street youth to Jesus and to encourage a personal, genuine relationship with Him. We want to give them all the resources and opportunities they need to discover their purpose, calling and potential that God has for them. It's not about giving them things - but giving them Jesus and hope for their future. ( For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope . Jeremiah 29:11 ) Filled with His Spirit and strength they will have the power to make the changes they need to reintegrate into society (home, a family, church relationships, school, job, etc.). We want to meet them where they are: teaching, coaching and encourage them with God's Word and practical resources. ( But seek first God's kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.
