The chair is founded in 1898 and for years of the existence graduated more than 2000 engineers.

Today the chair turns out the bachelors, experts and holders of a master's degree on such specialities and specializations:

- Technology of refractory unmetal and silicate materials (process engineering of cement and composite materials; technology of a gypsum and lime binding materials and products from them).

To construct the house for habitation or industrial manufacture, what is necessary? Correctly! Building materials is the foundation, wall, a roof and another, and for their manufacture the binding materials are necessary: cement, lime, gypsum. It is impossible to produce building materials without them . Therefore cement also has received a title "bread" of manufacture.

The deep knowledge of processes of manufacture, properties of binding materials enables the experts to accept active participation in creation of the various compositions. This knowledge is being received on chair of a chemical engineering of binding, polymeric and composite materials.

On blanket manufacture of cement, as well as on manufacture of metals it is accepted to estimate economic power of the state. Without it it is impossible to imagine neither our life, nor existence of any civilizations. Buildings, in which the binding materials are used, have an age-old history. It undoubtedly underlines their longevity. For example, only in Kiev it is such the universal recognized monuments of a history, as " a Gold gate ", "Sofievsky cathedral", "Pecherskaya lavra" etc.

One may to name binding materials and compositions on their basis as the eighth miracle of world. Among miracles, known for all world, only the Egypt pyramids have not suffered from time, which were built with use of early binding - gypsum and lime. From that time the spectrum of these extremely interesting materials considerably has extended. It is said that exists not 7, but at least 107 miracles of the nature, among which the principal place is occupied by materials, to which manufacture devote their efforts graduates of our chair. It is possible maintain, that the binding substances have originated together with thinking mankind.

Simultaneously with development of a human society the special technologies for binding, composite materials thrived which in turn promoted new ingenious discoveries.

The range of properties of building materials is very wide. So, for example, especially heavy concrete (one cubic m. of which weights more than 2,5 tons) are used as a extremely effective protection from a radio-activity, and spongy concrete (one cubic m. of which weights from 100 up to 600 kgs) are used as extremely effective walling, which can be sawn, drilled, treated with usual woodworking tool and is fire-resistant and strong, has high sound- and heat-insulation, and longevity.

The composite materials are materials of high technologies, materials of a space and air engineering, product of an individual protect - flak jackets. Without them the existence of rockets, planes, automobiles is impossible. Only on our chair you can receive skills of development and manufacture of such materials and products with different specific properties: from terrestrial structures up to space stations, from thorns to stars.

The demand for our graduates in state and commercial enterprises is very high.
