Orig:old_building01.JPG The fortifications of Kievan Rus had several entrances into the city. The main entrance was through the Golden Gate the remains of which can be seen on the corner of Vladimirskaya and Yaroslavov val streets.
Old entrance to city The Gate was complicated double-tiered construction whose lower part consisted of a stone wall with an entrance arch that bordered on the rampart; on top of the wall was the small Annunciation Blagoveschenskaya Church, whose cupola is believed to have been gold-plated, and which also served as a watch-tower.
