Create Simple Page Dividers in Photoshop
By following this tutorial, you'll learn how to create a web page divider that you can use on your web site. This tutorial explains how to use Photoshop and/or Kai's Power Tools (a set of Photoshop filters) to create a page divider for your web page. It's really just an excuse to play around with color and texture in a small space. You can also apply any of these techniques to type or dingbats.
1. Start with a new file, (Ctrl+N on windows, Command+N on the Mac) 400 pixels wide x 10 pixels tall, in RGB color.
2. Set the foreground color to red and the background color to yellow.
3. Double-click on the Gradient tool. This will open the Options Palette for the Gradient Tool. For Photoshop 3, Set the Style to Clockwise Spectrum. Set the Type to Linear, then drag the Gradient Tool from left to right. The page divider will look like the first example shown. The second example was created by following all of the same steps, except that the Style was set to Counter Clockwise Spectrum. In Photoshop 4, click the Edit button on the Options Palette for the Gradient Tool, and experiment to create a custom gradient. Photoshop 4 includes some nice presets for gradients, including gold and chrome.
To save the file as a GIF file, select Mode/Indexed in Photoshop 3, or Image/Mode/Indexed in Photoshop 4, and save the file as a gif file.
