This award recognizes exceptional contributions of a Texas community that has implemented successful workforce initiatives. Odessa was selected from all entrants in the category with a population of 40,000 to 100,000. Criteria for the award included: measurable results, return on investment, communitywide impact, sustainability, ability to be utilized by other Texas communities and a partnership with local workforce service providers. The TEDC Workforce Committee, representing economic development leaders from around the state, determined and recommended finalists for the award. TEDC President and CEO Carlton Schwab said, “ This is a great example of why the award was created. The City of Odessa, the Chamber, the Workforce Development Board and Odessa College really came together for one of the more significant economic development projects last year in the Family Dollar Distribution Center. We no longer think of these areas as being separate. The workforce component is critical to the success of an economic development project.”
