These two words sounded as a refrain in Ukraine’s history for a long time, becoming almost synonyms. But when freedom of the past presented us with the miracle of independence we did not notice it in pursuit of the specter of present times. Nowadays we are free! Today the artist can realize his intentions in full measure, without reservations, depending on his own wish and the direction of his will. The publication Artists of Ukraine is fulfilling exactly this thesis. This project is attractive due to its democratic character, being unengaged in ideological, group or situation orientations. That is probably why more and more well-known Ukrainian masters of visual arts take part in this project. Disposition of personalities in alphabetical order makes it possible to comprehend the creative work of an artist as manifestation of the talent of a unique artistic person. At the same time this reference album on creative work and biography represents artists of almost all regional centers of Ukraine. Besides, artists of Ukrainian diaspora (Canada, USA, Germany and other countries) are also represented in the album, which enables the reader to become acquainted with the development of contemporary Ukrainian visual arts on a wide and scientific level. While turning over the pages of the album you cannot but notice that the romantic and philosophic trend in Ukrainian traditional genre-painting and post-modernist studios reveals itself vividly again, being linked today not only with folklore and everyday motifs, but with religious subjects as well. It is possible that we are witnesses of the process of an original crystallization of a new way of development of Ukrainian art, which is unknown to us yet. The moment will come when the generalized critical mass of artistic thought will reach the time limit, and the miracle of the emergence of new art, “not made by human hands,” national in its essence, contemporary in form, satiated with vivid, emotional and spiritual content of the real as nature itself, will come into being. We are on the threshold of the Unknown. A. Khutorianyn Art critic ƒо уваги мистц≥в та мистецьких осередк≥в! Ўановн≥ колеги!
