The RTMonitor program scans the most current common log file of Novell BorderManager (NBM) or CProxy by Connectotel (CProxy) and creates the following statistics in real time: - User IP addresses. - NDS user name (if Proxy Authentication is in use). - Last web site visited by the user (will see IP address if Transparent Proxy is used instead of HTTP Proxy). - Last time this site was accessed in the Main window and the last twenty URL's visited in History window , per user. - Common loading of the user from the moment of start of the program. - Current loading of the user for the current time cycle of the program. - HTTP status code of the last HTTP packet. - Start time of the program. - Number of users accessing the Internet through NBM HTTP or Transparent Proxy (3 - for the demo version ) . - Waiting time. - Average HTTP loading of the server for 5 min. You also can: - Get information for a desirable host from the Internet Whois databases by the Whois command - Sort collected information. - Connect to selected web sites to see where were your users have been. - Look through the history (a cache) of these web sites for some cycles of the program. - Create reports for all websites, which your users are visiting at this moment. The program forms two kinds of reports - the report of websites and the report of visitors of these sites. - Define name of your users if NBM could not make it (in this case you see the "-"symbols in the "Users" column). - Save up to ten common log paths in the Recent NBM server menu if you have more than one NBM server in the network. - Manage blocking access to unwanted websites and domains using LinkWall by Connectotel if this software is available on the NBM server. - Manage blocking access to unwanted websites and domains using ContentFilter by Connectotel ( http://www.connectotel.com ) if this software is available on the NBM server. - Save URL of websites in the text file (LinkWall list) for the further analysis. - See entries of users, which tried to get access to forbidden websites (403 HTTP code). In this case RTMonitor shows these entries by yellow background in the Main window and gives the signal to the PC speaker. - Create HTML reports for the Main and History modes. - Change the color for the active users' font and the background color for forbidden entries in the Main window. - Establish max number of users accessing the Internet through NBM HTTP or Transparent Proxy for showing in the Main window, from 1 to 32767 (3 - for the demo version). - Get traffic diagrams for HTTP proxy for the current hour or day. - Get personal NDS information for user - Send a message to a user by using the Message services of NetWare. Requirements: - RTMonitor runs on Windows 2000/XP/2003 platforms. The program was not tested for Windows 9x/Me/NT environments. - NBM 2.1, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 and 3.8 or CProxy. The program was not tested on NBM 3.0. - Novell Client for Windows 4.90 SP2 or later. - TCP IP with Winsock 2. - Access to Internet by the TCP port 43 for the Whois command. - Current connection into the NDS tree of the NBM server. - Your workstation must be in the same network of your NBM server. - NBM Proxy with common logging enabled. - Common log files available to analyze. - For management of blocking by LinkWall you must have operator rights on the NBM server. - Log Rollover. Do not make the size of the common log file too big. Configure the common log file to Rollover by Size, with a limit of 10MB or less for best performance. For this program to work quickly, smaller log files are better than large ones. The size of a file also influences on RAM of your workstation. - Do not keep too many old log files in the common log directory. - The common log directory should not include any files with a .log extension except for common log files. - Network card. For normal work you can use any network card, including wireless connections, but there will be better performance in case of the faster connection. - Internet Explorer v4.0 or later is required to use the Connect mode feature. - NDS common user names do not must keep the following sequence of symbols: " [" (space, left square bracket). You can use these symbols in user names, but you cannot use them in this sequence. RTMonitor will ignore the log strings with this sequence of symbols.
