The only award program of its kind, SPARC is hosted by DSN Retailing Today magazine and honors the leading chains in the mass retail industry. Selection of Retailer of the Year is complex with SPARC board members and industry experts across the nation nominating candidates based on the candidates’ contributions to the industry over the previous year. Voting of DSN Retailing Today subscribers identifies the top candidates from four outstanding retailer categories, including Retailer of the Year and Specialty Retailer of the Year. “This award recognizes the important role that Family Dollar has played in the inception and growth of mass market retailing. It recognizes not only the accomplishments of their executive team but also the contributions of every associate throughout the Company,” said Paula Lashinsky, Associate Publisher of DSN Retailing Today. Other nominees for Retailer of the Year included executives from Amazon, Fred’s Inc., Big Lots, Sam’s Club and Tractor Supply Company. Since the first award in 1978, the award has honored retailers such as Target and Wal-Mart.
