Olympus C-990ZOOM Digital Camera
Its 2.1 million pixel CCD and superb optics give the C-990ZOOM the power to capture remarkably crisp images. A host of additional features, including a movie recording function, make this camera even more desirable.
The first double megapixel model in the C-900ZOOM series is equipped with a versatile 5.4 - 16.2 mm 3x zoom lens (corresponding to 35 - 105 mm on a conventional 35 mm camera). Should this level of magnification not suffice, however, images can be enlarged by a further 1.6, 2 or 2.5x with the digital tele. To give the best possible accuracy, measurements for exposure and focussing are made through-the-lens (TTL). And, allowing great photography in all sorts of lighting conditions, the C-990ZOOM permits exposure compensation to +/- 2EV in 1/2 EV steps, as well as spot metering.

Double megapixel zoom digital photography with a full range of features is now available in the most compact of dimensions! Olympus extends the popular CAMEDIA C-900ZOOM series with a model that incorporates a 2.1 million pixel CCD, movie recording function and more. Despite this host of improvements and enhancements the stylishly designed C-990ZOOM will remain very affordable.
Not only the extremely powerful 1/2.7 inch CCD, but also the advanced optics play a decisive role in delivering this model's super high-quality results. The first double megapixel camera in this series features a precision 5.4 - 16.2 mm multivariator 3x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 35 - 105 mm on a conventional 35 mm camera). Comprised of eight elements in six groups and containing two aspherical lenses, it assures exceedingly sharp zoom photography.
For situations where even more magnification is required, the CAMEDIA C-990ZOOM provides an additional 1.6x, 2x or 2.5x digital tele which can be employed in all quality modes. As it doesn't alter the lens' focal length, this feature is especially useful in situations where the photographer wishes to get closer to the subject without altering the motif's depth of field.
Numerous other features ensure that the easy-to-use C-990ZOOM captures every image optimally. Measurements for the contrast detection focusing system and for light metering are made through-the-lens (TTL), giving uppermost accuracy. Spot metering is also available and an exposure compensation adjustment of up to +2 EV in 1/2 EV steps lets shots be taken in more awkward lighting conditions.
ISO equivalent sensitivity and white balance can be either regulated automatically or set manually - providing extra scope for creative compositions.
However, this model offers another dramatic means of capturing all the action through the inclusion of a practical movie recording function. This enables up to 60 seconds of moving picture footage to be recorded in QuickTime Motion JPEG format*. If desired, these can then be viewed directly on television (PAL) thanks to the camera's TV interface.
The superb combination of powerful features and exclusive design is bound to give the 2.1 megapixel CAMEDIA C-990ZOOM particularly broad appeal. Very compact and lightweight, this zoom model has the added benefit of accepting the highly energy efficient LB-01 (CR-V3) lithium battery packs.
