Optical precision and digital excellence are the hallmarks of all Olympus CAMEDIA cameras and the attractively-priced C-3020ZOOM is no exception. With an effective resolution of
3.2 million pixels and a bright (F2.8), 3x zoom lens (equivalent to 32-96 mm on a 35 mm model) consisting of eight elements arranged in six groups, it provides the perfect optical and digital basis for dazzling image results. An impressive zoom factor of up to 7.5x is possible when the optical capabilities are joined by the seamless 2.5x digital zoom.

Thanks to the camera's user-friendly features, the newcomer can shoot great digital photos from the word go. Five scene modes are available with pre-programmed settings for specific styles: portrait, sport, landscape, night scene and motion picture.

The C-3020ZOOM is equipped with precision metering systems to ensure users super sharpness, perfect exposure and best colour balance with the minimum of effort.

A range of systems are available that take measurements directly Through The Lens (TTL) Both the focus and exposure settings, for example, can be established using the ESP (Electro Selective Pattern) system. By taking readings from various points in the frame and intelligently processing the data, the optimal settings are determined. While digital ESP measures the light, an iESP (intelligent ESP) system finds the best point of focus by evaluating the contrast of different areas in the frame. Exposure and sharpness can also be regulated using spot metering. This adjusts the parameters to suit the very centre of the frame. Of course, manual focus and exposure adjustment are also possible.

For more challenging lighting conditions, the user can activate the auto bracketing or exposure compensation functions. Should additional illumination be required, this model features a total of seven flash modes, such as First and Second Curtain Synchronisation and Fill-in.

For true-to-life colour, especially skin tones, the ambient colour temperature must be correctly ascertained. To do this, the C-3020ZOOM offers iESP auto white balance, four pre-set modes and – for the most precise readings – "one-touch" adjustment. White balance compensation is further available.

A diverse array of manually adjustable parameters and many special functions provide great freedom to explore the creative possibilities of digital photography. Exposure settings can be adjusted manually in Aperture priority, Shutter priority and Manual settings. In "My Mode" the photographer can save and instantly recall his or her preferred settings with ease.

The C-3020ZOOM provides the photographer with special picture effects. Recording in sepia or black and white modes endows photos with nostalgic, romantic and special atmospheric qualities. Blackboard and whiteboard modes guarantee text is captured with excellent contrast.

All features are easily activated either via the conveniently-placed buttons and dial or uncomplicated GUI (Graphical User Interface).

Up to 38 seconds of movie footage at a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels can be saved in QuickTime Motion JPEG on the supplied 16 MB SmartMedia card. The moving images – and still shots – may be viewed immediately on the built-in LCD screen. Using the zoom lever in viewing mode permits closer examination of the captured shots or shows an overview of the images already taken.

USB AutoConnect makes downloading image files to a computer amazingly fast and straightforward. As soon as the C-3020ZOOM is connected to a computer*, it appears as an external drive in the file manager or on the desktop. Files can then be copied easily via drag and drop.
