There is still no clear direction for the market, and electricity generators, Ukrnafta ( UNAF: HOLD ) and second-tier names are still dominating trading. The auction of 0.37% of Avdiyivka Coke ( AVDK: BUY ) planned for yesterday failed due to lack of interest. Investors are waiting on the sidelines as the political stand-off comes to a head. Last night President Yushchenko made clear he did not consider himself under any obligation to forward Viktor Yanukovich’s nomination as premier to parliament and said he didn’t want to dismiss parliament but he would if he was provoked. The Regions party bused in more than 10,000 supporters to Kiev overnight for a major rally today in Yanukovich’s support. Nevertheless there are moves behind the scenes toward a compromise and a “round table” meeting of political leaders might be held this afternoon. Yesterday’s PFTS auction for a 0.37% stake in Avdiyivka Coke ( AVDK: BUY ) failed due to a lack of interest. 2006-07-27 22 Metals & Mining Companies Get 10% Electricity Tariff Discount. The Industry Ministry announced that 22 companies in the metals and mining sector qualified for the 10% discount on electricity tariffs for big consumers, which takes effect on September 1. 2006-07-27 Chernihiv Khimvolokno Lifts Cord Output, Raises Debt. The company ( CHIM ), the only Ukrainian producer of cord fabric, increased output of the product by 83.1% in 1H06 to 18.5m sq. m., according to official statistics. 2006-07-27 Three Chemical Plants Get 10% Electric Power Discount. The chemical plants Stirol, Severodonetsk Azot and Cherkasy Azot will get a 10% discount from September 1 on their electricity tariff, the Industry Ministry announced (see news item in metals & mining above). 2006-07-27 Shell Teams Up with Alliance Group. Royal Dutch/Shell and Russia’s Alliance Group have formed a marketing alliance in Ukraine that will allow Alliance’s Ukrainian filling stations to use the Shell brand, according to Alliance’s Ukrainian division. 2006-07-27 Roshen Buys Lithuanian Confectioner.
