[departments.htm] The XX-th century was really named a century of polymers. There are all the reasons to suppose that their significance in the current century will be risen still more rapidly. Scientists both synthesize new type of polymers and disclose valuable, often unexpected properties and effects in these remarkable substances. The researchers of our Institute take active part in this useful and fascinating activity. The main direction of the Institute's investigations is development of the theoretical bases of obtaining composite polymer materials by the way of the profound study of the structure and properties of polymeric blends and networks (compatibility, microphase segregation, interfacial interactions, interaction with fillers, etc.). The Institute has a powerful synthetic subdivisions mainly engaged in polyurethane chemistry. The results of long-term investigations realized in the large amount of applied innovations such as ecologically compatible varnishes and paints, coatings with high protective effect in aggressive surroundings, adhesives of diverse application, including ones for medical purposes, and many others. Most of these materials include polyurethanes as important components of composites. We have serious achievements in recycling of secondary raw materials (rubber scrap, polyethylene, wood waste, etc.). The investigations are conducted with the use of modern methods such as calorimetry, radiography, chromatography, various types of spectroscopy (IR-, UV-, mass-spectrometry, NMR, PMR), etc. The Institute has wide contacts with many research institutions in Ukraine, Russia and abroad. Many researchers of the Institute are working at the leading polymeric centers of the West Europe and the USA. We approve such practice and hope that these relations will be strengthened. We heartily invite home and foreign specialists to contact us. The Institute's potential gives an opportunity to take part in elaboration of theoretical and applied polymeric problems of any complexity.
