AVELLUM’s year of invincibility

News

AVELLUM’s year of invincibility

It’s been a tremendously important and obviously the most critical year for our country after 24 February 2022, when russia started its unprovoked and unjustified full-scale war against Ukraine. Although the russian invasion made our activities quite challenging, we are fully operational and looking forward to restoring our business and the Ukrainian economy.

Despite the challenges, AVELLUM’s team has shown tenacity and achieved numerous victories and accomplishments. The firm is particularly proud of the following:

Team Preservation

Focusing on supporting our people, we have taken a number of anti-crisis measures to preserve the team. Since the start of the full-scale war, the firm has not laid off a single employee, has paid all salaries and provided additional financial support. Among others, we have seconded a group of our lawyers to esteemed international law firms such as Allen & Overy, Debevoise & Plimpton, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Greenberg Traurig, Linklaters and Slaughter & May.

Annual Promotions

AVELLUM honoured its team’s tenacity, resiliency, and commitment, with 34 employees promoted, as of 1 January 2023.

Summer Internship

Summer internship “Join AVELLUM” has proven itself as a very successful and longstanding training programme. As a result, 10 out of 11 interns received job offers in 2022.

Presence in Kyiv

We were one of the few leading Ukrainian law firms that kept most of the team, including our partners, on the ground in Ukraine with full access to the office and uninterrupted support of our clients. Our office remains fully operational and the vast majority of our employees are in Kyiv.

Country Support

We kept the pace in working on sovereign and quasi-sovereign matters in financial, infrastructure, and arbitration areas. With one of the most critical workstreams for our country, AVELLUM acted as the Ukrainian legal counsel to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, PJSC “National Power Company “Ukrenergo”, and the State Road Agency of Ukraine in connection with their Eurobond-related consent solicitations announced in July 2022.

Legal Battlefield

We took a number of pro-bono projects focusing on bringing the aggressor to justice with compensation for all damages. Namely, we were part of the group of international experts focusing on the preservation of evidence of the war crimes committed by russian soldiers in Ukraine. We also advised the action group led by the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine and the State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine on facilitating the adoption of restrictive measures against russia by the FATF. Finally, we also established a scholarship in the name of a fallen Ukrainian hero, Roman Ratushnyi, and many more.

Awards and Nominations

AVELLUM continues to maintain its top-tier positions in leading legal rankings, including Chambers and Partners, The Legal 500, and IFLR 1000. In recognition of its outstanding performance, AVELLUM was named Ukraine Law Firm of the Year at the IFLR European Awards 2022. This year, the firm has been shortlisted for two categories at the IFLR European Awards: Ukraine Law Firm of the Year and Debt and equity-linked deal of the year. Additionally, two of AVELLUM’s deals have been shortlisted for the 2022 CEE Legal Matters Deal of the Year Award.

AVELLUM’s dedication to its team, clients, and the Ukrainian economy during this year demonstrates our resilience and unwavering commitment. The firm remains optimistic about the future and looks forward to Ukraine’s victory.
