On February 26, 2021, a meeting was held between the newly appointed Rector of the Odessa Mechnikov National University Professor V.I. TRUBA with the Consul General of Bulgaria in Odessa Mr. S.N. IVANOV together with First Secretary Slavyan SIMEONOV. The solemnity of this event was marked by the fact that this meeting was the first official reception of Prof. V.I. TRUBA as the rector of the ONU.

During the meeting the parties have discussed some relevant issues of mutual interest, the main of which is the development of Bulgarian philology at the ONU. Mr. Consul General of Bulgaria especially emphasized the importance of our university in the Bulgarian Language Studies, which is the main national identity component of the Bulgarians in the region.

XX Gamow International Astronomical Conference-School in Odessa I.I.Mechnikov National University: “Astronomy and beyond: Astrophysics, Cosmology and Gravitation, High Energy Physics, Astroparticle Physics, Radioastronomy and Astrobiology” was on 9-16 August, 2020. Biological session “The Importance of G. Gamow’s Ideas for Biology of the 21st Century” took place in Zoom. The program is available here.

Fourth-year students of the specialty "International economic relations" of Odessa National I.I.Mechnikov University have successfully completed the module on cooperation between Ukraine and the EU, which was taught by the experts of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) (http://eubam.org/). Namely, experts from Germany, Sweden and Slovakia gave lectures about the role and mandate of the EUBAM and the role of cross-border cooperation for the regional security and economic development. Within the framework of the module the students also visited the new Palanka border crossing point, which was launched with the support of EUBAM, and is being managed jointly by the border and customs services of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

Professor Igor KOVAL, Rector of the ONU, met with the Ambassador of the State of Israel Mr. Joel LION at the Rector’s office. During the meeting, the Rector introduced to the honorable guest the history of the ONU Mechnikov formation and the modern stage of its development. The parties discussed the state of cooperation of the ONU with the scientific-educational institutions of Israel and discussed future prospects for developing of cooperation with a new university in Israel.

The Deputy Assistant Secretary of State (US) George KENT has met with lecturers and students of the Faculty of International Relations, Political Sciences and Sociology, where the Rector of ONU Professor Igor KOVAL was present.

March 6th, 2018 UKRAINE-NATO INTERPARLIAMENTARY COUNCIL (UNIC) has been held in the Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University at the Faculty of International Relations, Political Science and Sociology.

On October 24, 2017 two linguistic centres were opened at the Faculty of Romance & Germanic Philology. One of them was created with the participation of the Francophone University Agency, and the other was created by our university.

Starting October 20, at the Institute of Mathematics, Economics and Mechanics of Odessa National I.I. Mechnikov University there will be series of lectures conducted by experts from the European Union’s Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) (http://eubam.org/) about modern customs techniques and how the EU-Ukraine Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area is affecting the customs function in the country.
