Long live Diaspora! – As long as it’s Ukrainian

On November 30th, a video appeared on Facebook in which the Hungarian national anthem was sung during an OTG meeting in Transcarpathia. The SBU followed this up and stated that it would verify the footage and search for possible signs of illegal activity. Since the incident became public, it has caused an uproar throughout Ukraine, with public warnings against separatism in Western Ukraine. The dispute between Hungary and Ukraine with regard to Hungarian minorities in the Transcarpathian region doesn’t need to be reinvigorated by another empty scandal that is based on disproportionate and overly emotional reactions.

The Rearrengement of Political Forces after the 2020 Local Elections in Ukraine

Local elections in Ukraine took place in rather difficult conditions: the coronavirus epidemic, a new electoral system, decentralization and a growing conflict between the center and the regions. Сounting votes and determining a clear “winner” in these elections turned out to be quite problematic. After election day, chaos ensued as nearly every large party started to claim victory. Counting votes and drawing the correct conclusions proved to be more difficult than in previous elections. The ICPS has therefore gathered all relevant data and applied the criteria for determining who actually is the winner of this year’s local elections.

America: Avoiding Coyote Ugly

"My fear was that I had gone to bed election night — actually about 3 a.m. — next to coyote ugly and that her name was Ms. America. I didn’t recognize her. She wore bright red lipstick, the color of a particular politician’s necktie. Nightmares eventually end. Mine did, maybe yours," Michael Willard, an American publicist, political analyst and CEO of the international PR-agency The Willard Group, reflected on the US presidential election.

Ukraine-US Relations: Will Biden’s Administration Signify a Special Partnership with Ukraine?

Notably, Joe Biden’s victory has raised a plethora of expectations in Kyiv. With Mr. Biden’s six visits to Ukraine as vice-president, good knowledge about the country, and a possible personal bias in Ukraine’s favor, his win could be promising more resolute support and a deeper partnership with the United States. However, Biden will have to deal with not only Ukraine or even Russia; he will have to redesign US foreign policy and find an appropriate place for Ukraine in it. What could it look like?

The Unconstitutional Madness in Ukraine

The Constitutional Court’s decision to annul the system of e-declarations proved scandalous both in Ukraine and abroad. The ruling posed a palpable threat to Ukraine’s anti-corruption efforts, as well as to Kyiv’s relations with the EU. Nearly all key governmental bodies are currently searching for a solution to this crisis. Will Ukraine manage to restore the rule of law, at the same time avoiding EU sanctions?
