What is a trademark?

A trademark is a registered designation that will apply to the total amount of goods and services in order to distinguish it from others. This designation is a combination of words, colors, or certain characters. The trademark is registered with the relevant state institutions and protects the rights of the manufacturer – seller to use the emblem.

If a person wants to obtain a certificate of State registration, she needs to submit an application to the Ukrainian Institute of Industrial Property. This application is submitted for one mark and must contain:

  • registration statement;
  • brand name;
  • A list of goods and services for which there will be a registered trademark.

A trademark registration may be denied to you if it already exists or is similar. Usually the duration of trademark registration is 12-18 months. Registration ends with the signing of the contract.
