The Ukrainian Church can become “fresh blood” for the ancient and in some cases an outdated structure. The blood which simply did not get there previously because of the barriers created by Russian Orthodoxy.

Autocephaly: Who Decides?
Since when does Moscow, rather than the Ecumenical Patriarchate, have the right to create new Churches, to insist that they are the only canonical Orthodox Churches of countries beyond Russia, to maintain jurisdiction over them, and to reserve for itself the right to grant or deny them autocephaly?

LB: Fifth element of Ukrainian autocephaly
Perhaps few in Ukraine in the summer of 2018 need an explanation of what is a Tomos. Today it is almost a meme, of which, however, no average Ukrainians were aware just a couple of years ago. This is a historic act granting Ukraine and its Orthodox believers a legitimate canonical right to break away from Moscow's suffocating embrace.

The Fallacy and the Truth of Catholic Theology
There can be no doubt that we stand at the threshold of a new world era. The antithesis seems to be settling into a new synthesis, and it is not one that promises an easy ride for the Church.

What’s in a Name?
The Eastern Orthodox - that is, those Christians whose Orthodox traditions, theology, and spiritual practice are lived outside of communion with Rome, yet with communion amongst themselves and at least four ancient, apostolic sees - often suggest that it is not possible to be Orthodox in communion with Rome, as just being in communion with Rome nullifies any claim to Orthodoxy.

Ukrainain Orthodoxy on the eve of Pan-Orthodox Council. Part III
The history evidences: the Local Churches that were historically associated with earthly empires were uninterested in the canonical establishment of local churches under their jurisdictions, and therefore usually granted autocephaly to churches only under the pressure of historic circumstances. No exception is the Moscow Patriarchate, which has incorporated the Orthodox Church in Ukraine since 1686.

Ukrainian Orthodoxy: path to recovery of Church unity. Part II
Ukrainian Orthodoxy and Ukrainian society suffer from division. The majority of Ukrainian Orthodox believers belong to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate. The rest of the Orthodox community of Ukraine has chosen a different path of self-proclaimed autocephaly. However, neither the first nor the second path is optimal for the Orthodox Church in Ukraine to date.

Baptist church founded in Saskatchewan by Ukrainian immigrants to Canada over 100 years ago, closes
On July 15, the final Sunday service of worship and celebration was held at Hyas Baptist Church, culminating ministry in this area for over 100 years. It was early in the 1900’s that recent immigrants from Ukraine and Russia settled and desired to gather together for worship. They were Christians who experienced persecution in their homelands and were making a fresh start in Canada where they could practice their faith freely.
