Ukrainain Orthodoxy on the eve of Pan-Orthodox Council. Part III
The history evidences: the Local Churches that were historically associated with earthly empires were uninterested in the canonical establishment of local churches under their jurisdictions, and therefore usually granted autocephaly to churches only under the pressure of historic circumstances. No exception is the Moscow Patriarchate, which has incorporated the Orthodox Church in Ukraine since 1686.

Ukrainian Orthodoxy and Ukrainian society suffer from division. The majority of Ukrainian Orthodox believers belong to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate. The rest of the Orthodox community of Ukraine has chosen a different path of self-proclaimed autocephaly. However, neither the first nor the second path is optimal for the Orthodox Church in Ukraine to date.

100 years after the October Revolution, the martyrdom of the Catholic Church in the USSR
Between November 7 and 8, 1917, the Bolsheviks led by Lenin established a revolutionary government ("October Revolution", according to the Julian calendar), ending the Tsarist empire and establishing the Soviet republic, which then became the USSR. 100 years since that date, on November 8 a book by Prof. Jan Mikrut, titled "The Catholic Church in the Soviet Union from the Revolution of 1917 to Perestrojka" (Verona, Gabrielli Editori, 2017) will be presented at the Gregorian University.

The Moscow "papacy"?
On 19/09 the chief of the Moscow church diplomacy Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeev visited the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at his residence at Phanar. According to Greek sources during his visit, he conveyed the invitation of Russian Patriarch Kirill to visit Moscow in December on the occasion of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Local Council of 1917-18 and the restoration in the ROC the Patriarchy.
