47th KYIV IFF "MOLODIST" - OCTOBER 21-29, 2017

46th Molodist’s special event – “Mariupolis”

The 46th KIFF “Molodist” will hold a screening of the film “Mariupolis” by Mantas Kvedaravicius on October 25 at 21:00 at the cinema “Kyiv” (Velyka Vasylkivska Str., 19).

“Mantas Kvedaravicius left a strong impression at “Panorama” in 2011 with his debut film “Barzakh”, a cinematic essay on the conflict in Chechnya, Russia. Now he is back with the film “Mariupolis”: daily life is determined by bombs that threaten the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, located east of the Crimea, once inhabited by the Greeks. This is a visually powerful tribute to the city in crisis, dedicated to its poets and shoemakers”, issued the press office of the Berlin International Film Festival 2016.

A city, which is home to around half a million people, is in anticipation of war: for someone it is a pretext to aggression, for others - the best time to repair shoes and rehearse new plays.

It is a universal film about people and circumstances, the value of every moment; the people who live and do not lose hope and become accustomed to the roar of shelling coming from several dozen kilometers away. This film is not about war, but about life, which runs its course, despite the change of flag colours or military presence. This film is not about war, but about peace during the war.

"Mariupolis" is a co-production by Ukraine, Lithuania, Germany and France. Its co-producers are Anna Palenchuk (435 FILMS), Uljana Kim (Studio Uljana Kim), who was a representative of Lithuania in the Eurimages Council of Europe, and is the producer of the films-winners of the Cannes, Venice, and Rotterdam film festivals; Nadiya Turintsev (Rouge International), whose films were also shown at the Sundance, Toronto, Cannes, Locarno, San Sebastian film festivals; and Tanassis Karatanos – producer and CEO (TWENTY TWENTY VISION, PALLAS FILM), who was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, received awards and participated in the international film festivals in Cannes, Tribetsi, Karlovy Vary and Berlin.
