Head coach Vance Joseph is committed to a quarterback competition between Lynch and Trevor Siemian (shoulder) in the offseason, Nicki Jhabvala of The Denver Post reports.

Analysis: Pressed into duty on three occasions as a rookie, Lynch didn't express comfort in an offense in which he was under center more often than not. Unsurprisingly, he completed just 49 of 83 passes (59 percent) for 497 yards and two touchdowns versus one interception. A product of the spread offense as a collegian at Memphis, Lynch could thrive under new offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, who has propped up the likes of Tim Tebow, Peyton Manning, and Philip Rivers in his last three stops. Meanwhile, Lynch will be working against the more traditional and risk-averse Siemian as the offseason unfolds.

Head coach Vance Joseph is committed to a quarterback competition between Siemian (shoulder) and Paxton Lynch in the offseason, Nicki Jhabvala of The Denver Post reports.

Analysis: During a press conference Tuesday, Joseph called the upcoming QB battle "my vision going forward" with Siemian and Lynch. After earning the starting gig in the preseason, Siemian took advantage of the weapons afforded him through his first four games, completing 67.3 percent of his passes for 824 yards and six touchdowns versus three interceptions. However, in the latter contest, he suffered an injury to his left non-throwing shoulder, starting a downward spiral of sorts. Missing another game along the way due to a left foot sprain, he ended the campaign with 3,401 yards on 59 percent passing to go with an 18:10 TD:INT ratio. As the Broncos gear up for the 2017 season, both Siemian and Lynch will be vying to land the top signal-caller gig under the watchful eyes of new offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave.

Coleman isn't expected to require offseason surgery on his left ankle, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: Head coach Dan Quinn said as much Tuesday, all but clarifying the severity of the injury sustained by Coleman in Super Bowl LI. No matter, Coleman will likely focus on rehab in the coming weeks and perhaps months with the aim of working in tandem with Devonta Freeman out of the Falcons' backfield once again.

Williams was released by the Browns on Tuesday.

Analysis: The Browns have decided to cut ties with the 33-year-old cornerback just two seasons after inking him to a three-year, $21 million contract. Williams struggled with knee and shoulder aliments throughout the 2016 season, forcing him to miss five contests. He recorded 36 tackles, five pass deflections, and one interception in 12 games. He'll now look to find his way onto a roster in need of some secondary depth, as the veteran will bring plenty of experience wherever he winds up.

    • McCown was released by the Browns...

      Expand +

McCown was released by the Browns on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: The 37-year-old quarterback intends to continue his NFL career, as long as he can find his way onto a roster. He only played in five games for the Browns in 2016, throwing 90 completions on 165 attempts for 1100 yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions. McCown struggled with injuries during his two-year stint in Cleveland, which could deter teams from signing him to a deal. Regardless, he has proven to be a valuable backup quarterback throughout his 14 seasons in the league and should attract the attention of at least one organization going forward.
