Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (BGCGH) shares a similar mission with the Houston Texans, as both strive to help youth in our region reach their full potential. Throughout our six-year strategic partnership, we have worked together to support this goal and inspire positive change. The Texans support several major initiatives, including the S.M.A.R.T. (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) Girls and Passport to Manhood character-development programs, the Great Futures Dinner, the organization’s biggest annual fundraiser, and now the new Houston Texans Teen Club. We are also proud to create once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for BGCGH kids throughout the year through experiences like VIP Training Camp access, the TACT (Texans All Community Team) ticketing program on Texans gamedays, and more.
Houston Texans Teen Club In November 2016, the Houston Texans in partnership with the BGCGH opened the Houston Texans Teen Club, the first teen-specific facility in Houston and the first in the nation to be supported by an NFL team. Houston Texans Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer Cal McNair, Lady Texan Hannah McNair, President Jamey Rootes, President and CEO of the BGCGH Kevin Hattery and Texans players DE Jadeveon Clowney, S Andre Hal and C Greg Mancz cut the ribbon and celebrated the opening. The Teen Club was made possible by a gift of $750,000 from the Houston Texans Foundation. The space will include a college and career center, a music studio, a cafe, a wellness center, a game room with Carnival Cruise Lines, and a counseling office.
S.M.A.R.T. Girls and Passport to Manhood The Texans are strong supporters of the BGCGH’s character-development programs S.M.A.R.T. Girls and Passport to Manhood. Each semester more than 500 teenagers meet weekly to complete classes on topics such as childhood obesity, health and fitness, and relationships. Texans staff, nutritionists, Ambassadors, players, and Cheerleaders visit select classes to help motivate the teens and provide them with a comfortable space to discuss issues.
Great Futures Dinner The Houston Texans proudly support the BGCGH Great Futures Dinner. This annual event raises critical dollars to support the overall mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs. All proceeds help support programs in the organization’s priority-outcome areas: academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character, and citizenship. These programs are administered in each of the area clubs in the Greater Houston area and serve more than 10,000 youth.
Kids CaféThe Houston Texans are proud to support the Kids Café program through the Houston Food Bank and Boys & Girls Club. Kids Café is a Houston Food Bank program that feeds kids all over the city, mostly in after-school programs such as those at the Boys & Girls Club. Each day through this program, kids are served fresh, hot meals. Many of these kids would not otherwise receive evening meals at home, making them eligible for the program. Food is packaged and cooked by Food Bank volunteers and chefs and delivered to the after-school site all free of charge for the kids and after-school program. The Houston Texans make sure to visit the Kids Café locations at the Boys & Girls Club multiple times per year, both in the fall and spring, bringing a little Texans spirit to this special program.
