The Swedish Academy has surprised the world with its decision to award the Nobel Prize for Literature to U.S. singer and songwriter Bob Dylan. Dylan was far down the list of predicted winners, which also included U.S. novelists Don de Lillo and Philip Roth. In an unusual move, the Academy announced Thursday it was honoring Dylan for "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition." Zlatica Hoke reports.
