During the second session of the 16th exile Tibetan Parliament, members questioned Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay today on the reasons behind his continuing faith in the Sino-Tibet Dialogue which have been stalled since 2010. In the meantime, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has continued to publicly attack the Dalai Lama and ruled out any dealings with the Sikyong. Prior to their resignations in 2012, the Dalai Lama’s envoys had been the point persons in maintaining contact with Beijing, however the Sikyong has not moved to replace them.

Sikyong Sangay’s often repeated campaign promise of returning the Dalai lama to the Potala Palace also came up for questioning as Parliament demanded clarification on whether he meant for the Dalai Lama to pay a temporary visit to Tibet, or if he was indicating a more permanent move following a resolution on Tibet with China.

While the Sikyong did not provide many clear responses to the questions raised by over ten members of Parliament, he however did assure them that every effort was being made to restart the dialog with China and that the Kashag was hopeful. He called on the Parliament to not press for details since the matter was both sensitive and classified.
