They claim that the current electoral system favors President Robert Mugabe's ruling Zanu PF party, which has been in power for more than 36 years. The Zapu congress kicked off today with opposition leaders gracing the event in a show of solidarity amid moves by MDC formations, Zimbabwe People First led by Juice Mujuru and several others to form a formidable coalition to take on President Robert Mugabe's party in the 2018 general polls. Nelson Chamisa of the MDC-T speaks out about his controversial appointment as one of the vice presidents of the opposition party. Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko’s shop has been looted. Anti-riot police have been deployed in Masvingo town in anticipation of a public demonstration to be staged by opposition parties demanding widespread electoral reforms ahead of the 2018 general elections. Zapu led by interim president Dumiso Dabengwa is expected to hold its first congress, a few years after the party left Zanu PF protesting against the marginalization of members of the party, which went into a unity accord with President Robert Mugabe’s party in 1987 following years of hostilities between the two former liberation movements. Two factions of President Robert Mugabe's ruling Zanu PF party have clashed just outside Harare in a primary election to fill a parliamentary seat left vacant following the expulsion of war veterans leader Christopher Mutsvangwa from the former liberation movement for allegedly denigrating the image of the president and first lady, Grace Mugabe. About 18 opposition parties, including MDC led by Morgan Tsvangirai and former vice president Joice Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First, are crafting a coalition to take on Zanu PF in the 2018 general elections. We will take a closer look at the causes and symptoms of dementia and its effects. And Team Zimbabwe is returning home empty-handed from the 2016 Olympic Games. The three remaining Zimbabwean athletes were a big let-down as they failed to finish in the top 10 of the marathon with one of them failing to finish the race. Safari Njema profiles two people with disabilities who have gone on to inspire their communities through self-reliant initiatives.   And there is still a medal hope for Zimbabwe at the Olympic Games. Zimbabwean vendors march to a local police station to express their dissatisfaction with the manner in which they are being allegedly brutalized by the police. Members of the Women of Zimbabwe Arise today staged a peaceful demonstration in Bulawayo demanding that the government should introduce free primary education, starting this coming school term. Most farmers in Mashonaland West say they are ill-prepared for the 2016/2017 agricultural season.
