Five Things To Watch For

The only driver entered in the Tequila Patrón Sports Car Showcase with an overall victory at Long Beach is Scott Pruett, who won the 2006 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series event for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates. Pruett won co-driving with Luis Diaz; he returns in the No. 01 Ford EcoBoost/Riley with Memo Rojas.

Honda chassis and engines will be seeking their fourth consecutive overall victory at Long Beach. Driving for Extreme Speed Motorsports, Scott Sharp will be joined this weekend by Ryan Dalziel in the team’s No. 1 Tequila Patrón HPD ARX-03c/Honda entry, with last year’s second-place finishers Ed Brown and Johannes van Overbeek returning in the No. 2 entry.

In the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship’s new GT Le Mans class, Porsche North America will be looking for its third consecutive class victory. Nick Tandy and Richard Lietz won the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona, joined by Patrick Pilet in the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR. Patrick Long and Michael Christensen took the No. 912 to the winner’s circle in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida, joined by Joerg Bergmeister.

Watch for Chevrolet to be fast with its new Corvette C7.R. Corvette Racing won the G GT class four times in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón. Gavin and Milner return in the No. 4 Corvette C7.R, while Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia co-drive the No. 3 entry.  Gavin also took the GT1 class victory at Long Beach with Olivier Beretta in both 2007 and 2009, while Magnussen won with Johnny O’Connell in 2008.

Bill Auberlen – who won the ALMS GT class at Long Beach last year – and Andy Priaulx share the lead in the GTLM point standings with Joey Hand, who co-drove the No. 55 BMW Team RLL BMW Z4 to second place in the Rolex 24 and third at Sebring.  The BMW teammates have 64 points, five more than a nine-way tie among Porsche North America drivers Tandy, Lietz, Pilet, Long Christensen and Bergmeister, along with Rob Bell, Jonathan Bomarito and Kuno Wittmer, drivers of the No. 93 SRT Motorsports SRT Viper GTS-R.
