Everyday Abolition: We Are Responsible for the Prison Industrial Complex

(0) Comments | Posted March 30, 2015 | 9:25 AM

I have been thinking a lot about violence at the hands of the state -- the police state we have become -- and the prison industrial complex (PIC) that we've developed. And since I work in higher education, I have been thinking especially of everyday abolition in the college setting....

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Being a Radical: Assata Taught Me

(0) Comments | Posted January 13, 2015 | 8:07 PM

For years I have been reading about Assata Shakur. I read newspaper articles; I watched discussions about her on Democracy Now! and other radical news outlets; I'd seen her name emblazoned on shirts, and some of my favorite revolutionaries quote her. Last week, I finally picked up her autobiography. I...

As a higher education staff member with my work focusing on intersectional identities, I am often asked about "Safe Space" workshops: Do I lead them? Do we have them on campus? I also encounter people starting off workshops, etc., saying, "This is a safe space to..." Every time I hear...

Earth, a Queer Issue

(0) Comments | Posted June 3, 2013 | 10:12 AM

I've been invested in sustainable living and environmental issues since I was in Jr. High. Ecology was how I got involved in activism. In fact, to be clear, marijuana legalization was my first activist issue. To my parents chagrin, I was the 14-year-old little christian girl writing all her papers...
