José Mourinho - M - Chelsea

Chelsea Football Club have officially announced that Antonio Conte will take over the West London club as manager after he concludes his Euro2016 duties with Italy.

With Jose Mourinho banished from Stamford Bridge for a second time and Guus Hiddink apparently not the long term answer, Chelsea have officially found Mourinho's long-term successor. Antonio Conte comes to the Bridge after a 13 year playing career at Juventus and managerial stops at Arezzo, Bari, Atalanta, Siena, Juventus and Italy. Conte won five Scudetto titles as a player with Juve and three more as manager. He won one Champions League in his playing days but it was his failure to progress sufficiently in that competition that saw him resign his post.

Daley Blind - M - Manchester United

Louis van Gaal moved quickly to allay any injury fears by confirming Daley Blind "will be alright again" after some much needed time off.

Blind has been involved in all but two of Manchester Uniteds’ Premier League games this season – including playing every minute since October – and it looked like his efforts were beginning to take their toll as he trudged off with the physio on 82 minutes yesterday. However, Van Gaal revealed post-match that Blind was not injured: "He has played every match this season more or less, and he is at the end of his strengths. So I shall give him two days off this week and then he will be all right again." Despite another insipid performance, United managed to scrape a narrow win to keep their hopes of a Champions League qualification spot alive. Even by his own admission, Van Gaal says it was "a stolen victory" because United "did not play well."

Glenn Whelan - M - Stoke City

Glenn Whelan will be monitored ahead of next Sundays’ game with Liverpool after a back complaint forced the Republic of Ireland midfielder off at the Britannia last weekend.

Whelan was a doubt for the Swansea game after picking up an injury while on international duty: "He had a spasm in his back and it was touch and go whether or not he started," Mark Hughes admitted. "As ever he put his hand up to play, but obviously wasn't able to complete the full 90 and we were actually trying to get him off when we conceded the second goal." Despite a variety of ailments this season including an ongoing calf issue and a broken nose, Whelan has started every Premier League game. Stephen Ireland and Charlie Adam are potential replacements but I suspect the 32-year-old stalwart will be one of the first names on Hughes’ team sheet at Anfield next weekend.

Benik Afobe - F - Bournemouth

Eddie Howe could be without Benik Afobe for up-to a month after the Cherries striker picked up a hamstring injury while training with the DR Congo.

Afobe made an impressive start to his Bournemouth career when he arrived from Arsenal via Wolverhampton Wanderers. Three goals in his first 4 games helped Eddie Howe’s men secure seven crucial points but the 23-year-old – who is still learning his trade at the highest level – has struggled to recreate his early form and is now set for a spell on the sidelines. News broke late on Saturday and his absence afforded Lewis Grabban a rare Premier League start partnering Josh King up front. However, against a resurgent City side, the match was effectively over within 20 minutes although Grabban will benefit from his first 90 minutes for the club since re-joining from Norwich.

Gerard Deulofeu - F - Everton

Gerrard Deulofeu was returned to the Everton starting line-up and while he had a few moments of quality Everton struggled to muster any serious attack and fell 1-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

It had been since the end of January that Deulofeu started a match for the Toffees and in his two months in the doghouse he only saw action as a substitute twice. It's hard to blame Roberto Martinez because the Toffees only lost one of the matches that Deulofeu was an unused substitute (the 3-2 loss at home to West Ham). The Toffees did, however, lose both matches that Deulofeu played in as a substitute (1-0 to West Brom and 2-0 to Arsenal). The trend continued with Deulofeu restored to the starting line-up with the Toffees losing, failing to score and only mounting a single shot on target. It's hard to imagine that Deulofeu is the cause of the poor results per se but the correlation does seem to be strong between him featuring and Everton doing poorly.

Anthony Martial - F - Manchester United

Anthony Martial scored the only goal of the match as Manchester United beat Everton 1-0 at Old Trafford.

The news wasn't all good as Anthony Martial scored the game winner but looked to be struggling physically as the final whistle blew. It could be a minor knock or it could be more than that, we'll have to wait on more information from the Old Trafford medical crew. The goal was a classy one with Marcus Rashford backheeling into the path of Tim Fosu-Mensah who crossed for Martial to drive it home. The win allows Manchester United to keep pace with Manchester City who finish up the week a point ahead of their local rivals in the race for fourth.

Matthew Targett - M - Southampton

Southampton gave Leicester plenty to think about over the course of 90 minutes, but they could not find a goal and lost to the Foxes, 1-0.

This is what happens when you up against a team of destiny. There were stretches in this one where the Saints looked the more threatening side, but Leicester's defense was superb in clearing dangerous balls that entered the box. Probably Southampton's best chance came when Sadio Mane found space as he approached the goal, but his strike was well-blocked by Danny Simpson. Fraser Forster kept the game in reach in the second half by stopping what would have been a Jose Fonte own goal and then came out of nowhere to parry away a wide open chance by Simpson. Matt Targett got a start today but apparently was substituted at the break because of injury, possibly to his ankle. Clarification should be arriving on Targett's status soon.

Wes Morgan - D - Leicester City

Leicester City widened their lead on Tottenham in the title race with their fourth consecutive 1-0 win, today over Southampton.

The Foxes end the weekend seven points clear of Spurs with six matches to go, and it would take a historic collapse for the title to elude them now. Their season is a magical one that will be talked about for decades to come, but what has been so special about their story is how they relied on attacking in the first half of the season to win 3-2 games but, in 2016, have shifted their focus to sound defending, earning 1-0 wins in six of their last twelve games. Morgan was the hero today, scoring the lone goal, his first of the season, heading in from a Christian Fuchs cross as the left back was given time and space to deliver a pinpoint ball. Jamie Vardy, meanwhile, was a menace all day as per usual, displaying an impressive work rate.
