And this year’s New York International Auto Show won't disappoint those customers — as automakers across the board offered up new SUV's and crossovers. But as VOA reporter Tina Trinh discovered, unlike an earlier era, new designs and technologies are changing the cars’ image as clunky, gas guzzlers.

     Visitors Experience Washington's Magnificent Cherry Blossoms

    In Washington, D.C., the famous cherry blossoms are out, and so are the huge numbers of visitors who come in the spring to experience the magnificent display. Many are seeing the flowering trees for the first time. VOA’s Deborah Block spoke with some of them as they walked along the Tidal Basin, one of the most beautiful places to see the blossoms.

     US Congressman: Brussels Attack Could Change Minds on Guantanamo Detention

    U.S. State Department and Pentagon officials testified on Capitol Hill Wednesday about the Obama administration's plans to close Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detention facility - a hearing that took place one day after the Brussels terrorist attacks. As VOA Pentagon correspondent Carla Babb reports, some lawmakers suggested that attacks in Brussels and last year in Paris might persuade European allies to rethink calls to close the facility.

    Republican frontrunner Donald Trump and rival Ted Cruz both had victories Tuesday in the U.S. presidential race. Trump easily won the Arizona primary while Cruz won a lopsided victory in caucus voting in Utah. But even as Trump moves closer to securing the Republican Party nomination, many establishment Republicans remain hesitant to heed his call to unite behind him as the expected nominee.     Ex-offenders trying to find jobs face application forms that require checking a “yes” or “no” box saying whether they've ever been convicted of a crime. Checking "yes" excludes applicants from some jobs. But, as VOA's Carolyn Presutti reports, civil rights and prison reform organizations are urging employers to "ban the box."
