    Archive 1994: Tonya Harding vs Nancy Kerrigan On January 6 th , 1994, Nancy Kerrigan was attacked as she left the ice after a practice session at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit, Michigan. The attack, and the ensuing media frenzy, carried thru the Winter Olympic games in Lillehammer in February of that year and overshadowed much of the media coverage of the games as a whole. Despite the attack, Nancy Kerrigan took the silver medal behind Oksana Baiul. Tonya Harding placed 8 th overall.
