In fact it is liability to pay the specified sum of money to the proprietor, whose sample of the signature is put down on the cheque at the moment of its sale.

In order to get traveller's cheques it is necessary to have the following documents:

  • a Ukrainian passport;
  • a foreign passport.

How to use traveller's cheques?

The principle of usage of traveller's cheques is simple. You come to the bank, choose the suitable face values of the cheques. If the face value, requested by you, is absent, the bank usually orders it. Then you pay for the cheque the commission to the bank – 2% from the sum of face value (commission is paid in UAH equivalent at the rate of the NBU at the date of transaction performance) and put down the signature on each cheque. While purchasing the cheque the slip is given. It should be kept and it’ll be better to keep it separately from the cheques. If suddenly you lose the cheque or it is stolen, with the help of the slip it’ll be possible to confirm the right on reception of money.

If you are abroad and you need cash, you can come to any bank in presence of the person, who accepts cheques, sign on the cheque repeatedly, and in such a way confirm its validity. When you are abroad in order to exchange traveller's cheques for cash you can turn to the bank’s branch or exchange office, on the signboard of which there is a trade mark with the name of the company – issuer of the cheques of Thomas Cook or American Express. In many countries hotels, restaurants and shops accept traveller's cheques as a means of payment and give out change in local currency.

If after your trip you still have unused cheques, you can take them with you next time – validity of the cheques is unlimited. They can be exchanged for cash in our bank as well. In this case you pay the commission to the bank – 2% from the sum of face value (commission is paid in UAH equivalent at the rate of the NBU at the date of transaction performance).
