International Workshop on Theory of Reliability for Modern Information Technologies (WS TheRMIT 2015)

Background

Dynamical development and pervasive implementation of information and communication technologies (ITs) into commercial and critical domains have caused, cause and will cause strong dependence of humanity, environment and artificial (created by people) technical systems security and safety on reliability and dependability of the ITs. Theory of reliability is enough conservative branch of science. Mathematicians consider theory of reliability as a part of probability theory and specialists in mathematical theory of reliability usually “live up your life”. Engineers are obliged essentially to adopt a classic methods and techniques to assess actual reliability level of IT-based systems taking into account their features and specification requirements.

ITs and IT-based systems are one of the most complex and rapidly renewable objects for reliability evaluation and assurance. Still there is not standard-established point of view regarding reliability issues of software as a key component of IT-based systems. Reliability (dependability) of Cloud computing infrastructures assessment and assurance is modern challenge. Concept Internet of Things (IoT) was suggested a few years ago and now reliability community must propose an appropriate technique to assess IoT-based systems. There is other challenge that reliability of IT (for example, computer software for reliability assessment) influences on reliability of IT (software-based system).

We invite scientists, engineers and experts to discuss problems of development, adaptation and application of modern theory of reliability for assessment of ITs and creation of dependable IT-systems. TheRMIT Workshop focuses on topics which are close to ICTERI 2015 http://www.icteri.org/icteri2015-conference-scope such as “Reliability and Trust of Knowledge Management”, “Web Services and Distributed Computing”, “Big Data, Linked Data, and Data Clouds” etc.). The WS evolved from the conference Dependable Systems, Services & Technologies DESSERT 2006-2014, www.dessertcon.com, as well.

The focus of the WS was chosen in order to address:

  • modern ITs and IT-based systems and infrastructures as a object of reliability (dependability, availability, safety) assessment and assurance;
  • modern ITs as a means of analysis and evaluation of IT-based systems and infrastructures reliability (dependability, availability, safety),

Safety, mission and business critical IT-applications are key domains.

Topics

The main topics on the workshop agenda include, but are not limited to the following:

  • General problems of reliability theory and practice in context of information and communication technologies development: modern challenges, new theories, business issues
  • Taxonomy of reliability and dependability, survivability and resilience, safety and cybersecurity: interconnection and borders of the theories for ITs, IT-systems and IT-infrastructures
  • Software reliability and dependability of software systems: intellectual phantom, formed theory or business-oriented technologies?
  • Reliability and resilience of web-, grid-, cloud-, IoT-based systems: the problems of evolvability complexity and uncertainty
  • A diversity principle and multi-version SW- and FPGA-based IT-systems reliability and safety: risk assessing of common cause and event failures
  • Markovian chain-based techniques and tools (T&T) for assessing of high availability IT-systems: analysis of accuracy and stability and T&T selection

WS panel discussion

Industrial issues of computer software and tools application for critical SW- and FPGA-based IT-systems and infrastructures safety and availability assessment

Submission Types and Requirements

TheRMIT solicits regular and short research papers, surveys, industry reports and case studies. Evaluation criteria are equivalent to the ones of the main ICTERI Conference. Please refer to
http://www.icteri.org/icteri-2015-submission-types-and-evaluation-criteria and http://www.icteri.org/icteri2015-instructions-authors for more details.

Submission Procedure

The authors should use the ICTERI electronic submission system at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icteri2015. Then choose “New submission” option, select a track “International Workshop on Theory of Reliability for Modern Information Technologies”, and follow the instructions for this track.

Publication

The papers written in English and accepted for WS TheRMIT 2015 will be published in the interna-tional proceedings volume of ICTERI 2015. This proceedings volume will be published electronically and indexed by Google Scholar, DBLP and Scopus. The best papers of WS TheRMIT 2015 may be selected by the ICTERI 2015 Program Committee, based on their presentation at the workshop, and invited to be extended and revised for the post-proceedings of ICTERI 2015. The post-proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag in their CCIS series. CCIS volumes are abstracted / indexed in DBLP, Scopus, etc.
The papers accepted for WS TheRMIT 2015 may be invited for publication in the Ukrainian journal «Radiolectronics and Computer Systems» http://www.khai.edu/uk/site/radioelektronni-i-komp.html
Submissions should be made electronically in pdf or doc/docx (MS/Open Word) format. The authors should use the ICTERI electronic submission system at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icteri2015 and submit their papers to the ICTERI 2015 Track. Those authors who do not have their personal account at EasyChair have to create it using Easychair before submitting their paper.
