You can buy the foreign currency for an amount not exceeding the equivalent of UAH 3 000 during one working day for any purpose (deposit, money transfer, own needs, etc.) in the bank’s cash department.

This requirement does not apply to the purchase of foreign currency for the loan repayment (NBU provision №591 of 09.22.2014). In this case, the sum should not exceed the total debt under the credit agreement as of the transaction day.

An additional fee to the Pension Fund of Ukraine amounting 0.5% of the transaction amount is paid when buying foreign currency in bank cash department. When selling a currency the fee is paid by the bank. Recovery of any additional payments is illegal (Law of Ukraine "On prevention of financial disaster and establishing prerequisites for economic growth in Ukraine").

When buying foreign currency a document confirming your identity is required.

There are no restrictions on the sale of foreign currency. However, in the case of transaction amounting more than UAH 150 000 equivalent the cashier will also ask for your passport and identification code inquiry (NBU provision №502 of 12.12.2002).

When withdrawing funds in the national currency form the current account, you can withdraw the account balance in local currency within UAH 150 000; in foreign currency - up to a maximum of UAH 15 000 (equivalent at the official NBU exchange rate) in cash within one day (NBU provision №758 of 01.12.2014).

This provision does not apply to:

- Cash in the national currency for the wages payment,

- Travel expenses,

- Pensions

- Scholarships

- Other social and related payments (except for financial assistance), as well as the payment of the funds reimbursed to depositors by Deposit Guarantee Fund of individuals.

If you need to withdraw funds from the card account, the balance on the account can be accessed via:

- Cashier of the bank. The limits are similar to that for withdrawals from your current account - up to UAH 150 000 in the national currency.

- At ATMs. Within one day you can withdraw funds of up to UAH 50 000 in Ukraine.

Upon the expiration or early contract termination of hryvnia deposits funds are transferred to the current or card account. They are subject to the restriction of the NBU indicated earlier.

If you want to withdraw funds in foreign currency at the end of the deposit contract, the entire amount of the deposit will be fully enrolled to your account in the respective currency. In accordance with the National Bank of Ukraine requirements of Provision №758 of 01.12.2014 You will be able to withdraw money from an account in a foreign currency, but not more than UAH 15 000 per day at the equivalent of NBU official rate.

This requirement applies to the issuance (receipt) of cash from current and deposit accounts, both in Ukraine and abroad, regardless of the number of client accounts in the same bank.

Exceptions:

• diplomatic missions, consular offices of foreign states in Ukraine, international financial institutions, representatives of international financial organizations and their employees if they are not citizens of Ukraine, or do not live here permanently and accredited by the Ministry of foreign affairs of Ukraine;
• operations to ensure the costs of employees on business trips abroad by residents - legal entities, individual entrepreneurs and foreign missions.

If you have a card account opened in a foreign currency, you can receive cash only in local currency. NBU provision №758 of 01.12.2014 prohibited the issuance of foreign currency for payment cards. This applies to both residents and non-residents. When carrying out such an operation the purchase rate of foreign currency for the hryvnia at the time of the transaction is used, and the conversion fee is applied according to bank rates. In this case, the issuance of funds in national currency will be carried out within the established NBU limits in the range of up to UAH 150 000 per day.

You can withdraw up to UAH 15 000 (equivalent according to the official exchange NBU rate) when withdrawing funds from the card accounts outside of Ukraine via an ATM during 24 hours.

It’s prohibited to make transfers without opening an account in foreign currency in Ukraine, such transfers are made only in local currency.

You can transfer the amount not exceeding UAH 150 000 for one recipient (NBU provision №210 of 06.06.2013) without opening an account within Ukraine.

You can transfer an amount equivalent to UAH 15 000 when sending funds outside of Ukraine during the working day.

You can buy precious metals in banks that do not exceed UAH 3 000 equivalent per working day (NBU provision №591 of 22.09.2014).

Non-cash purchase of foreign currency on the interbank foreign exchange market of Ukraine (IFEMU) in order to leave it on the current account for your own needs, pick up cash in the bank or place it on deposit is prohibited.

You can buy the currency at IFEMU for paying the loan and transferring abroad for certain purposes (loan repayment, payment for medical treatment, education, payment of goods, works and services abroad for their personal consumption, in case of departure for permanent residence abroad, etc.) only in the amount not exceeding the amount stated in the supporting documents (NBU provision №281 of 10.08.2005).

In addition the currency purchased on the IFEMU needs to be transferred to its destination within 10 days from the date of enrollment of such currency to the account. After this period the bank sells the unused currency (NBU provision №281 of 10.08.2005).

You can sell foreign foreign currency without restrictions. The purchased hryvnia can be used at your discretion, but given the fact that you can withdraw from the current/card account no more than UAH 150 000 per day (NBU provision №758 of 01.12.2014).
