Bob Dylan’s Unheard Lyrics Get Star Studded Revamp On Showtime’s ‘Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continues’

by Jordan Runtagh (@JordanRuntagh)

Perhaps the most tantalizing period in Bob Dylan‘s fabled history is his self-imposed exile while recovering from a motorcycle accident in late 1966. For nearly a year, the folk-rock icon holed up in the cellar of a large pink house in West Saugerties, New York (later immortalized as “Big Pink”) with future members of The Band to write and record music that scholars among his best. Unfortunately for fans, it would go largely unheard for decades. After years of bootlegging, the first fruits of this quietly prolific time saw light of day on The Basement Tapes in 1975— but’s only a fraction of the story. More music from those sessions have since been released, culminating with this year’s The Complete Basement Tapes, which has lead many to believe that the well had finally run dry. Until now.

10 Rockers Who Got Their Ass Kicked

by Ben Smith (@BHSmithNYC)

What with the myths of the hard living “rock n’ roll lifestyle” and their allusions to outlaw culture, many musicians like to think of themselves as genuine bassasses. However, the fact of the matter is that most musicians are the types of people that spent their high school afternoons learning their instruments and working on their stage moves in front of their bedroom mirror, not letting their fists do their talking down in the streets.  And while some genuine tough guys do exist in the worlds of hip hop and heavy metal, there are far more that would be well advised to try to talk their way out of a fight or leave it to one of the members of their road crew.  We’ve shown you what happened when rockers attack, we’ve showed you bands that came to blows and now is the time to talk, and show you when possible, 10 musicians who at one point in their life unfortunately got their asses handed to them in a big way. And there’s no shame in that. We can’t all be Lemmy.  Read more…

These Entertainers Are The Last People We Ever Expected To Rap, But It’s Amazing When They Do

by VH1

By Chris Carpenter

Coming off a 1.287 million sales week for her latest studio effort 1989, Taylor Swift uploaded an Instagram video of herself as a token of appreciation to her fans and other humans who decided to purchase the album. (THE. WORLD. IS. SO. GREAT. SOMETIMES.) Taylor expressed her immense gratitude the way that any pop star would – you know, by lip-synching to Kendrick Lamar’s “Backseat Freestyle”. Taylor is so good to us, fam. Expressing herself in the form of hip-hop isn’t new to Tay. Heck, she was even dubbed ‘T-Swizzle’ by T-Pain. While she may be the reigning champ of non-rapping entertainers who have fun rapping sometimes, Taylor isn’t alone. The genre (?) is comprised of so many greats. Surprise! Even Madonna thinks it’s cool.
