SANTA CLARA –- Rookie running back Carlos Hyde has measured himself against 49ers’ Frank Gore in the past. Now, he’ll get an up-close view of one of the best backs in the game over the past decade.

"I really pay attention to Frank Gore," Hyde said Thursday after completing a workout at the 49ers' practice facility. "That’s a guy who even before I got drafted I was already comparing myself to -– him and Marshawn Lynch. Because those guys are relentless with the ball and they run tough.”

Hyde, a second-round draft pick from Ohio State, has not had an opportunity to talk with Gore since they became teammates. Gore takes part in early morning workouts, while Hyde comes in later in the day with the rookies.

Both players also worked out at the same facility in Miami this offseason.

“The last thing I was thinking was that I would be on the same team, but it was great to see him working out there and be around him,” Hyde said.

Gore is entering the final season of his contract, so it’s uncertain how long they’ll be teammates. But Hyde said he is looking forward to learning as much as he can.

“Being able to watch Frank Gore and being able to have an opportunity to learn from him is awesome,” Hyde said. “Not too many people get to learn from a guy who’s probably going to the Hall of Fame. I’m going to really pay attention to him and take notes.”
