ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Terry and Kim Pegula were officially introduced Friday afternoon at One Bills Drive as owners of the NFL's Buffalo Bills.
"My name is Terry Pegula, and the Pegulas just bought a football team. Actually, that's not quite correct."
Choking back tears, a beaming Terry Pegula said, "We all just bought a team. Our team. The Buffalo Bills."
The Pegulas are the second owners of the Bills, as franchise patriarch Ralph Wilson Jr. died in March.
Pegula ended his speech by saying what all Bills fans want to hear - he's in it to win the big one.
"The primary goal of our ownership will be to win the Super Bowl and bring championships to the City of Buffalo and myself and my family will dedicate ourselves to that," Pegula said, "and yes I said my family, because we want to bring a Super Bowl to the Niagara region, courtesy of your, our, my Buffalo Bills."
NFL owners unanimously approved the Pegulas as new owners Wednesday in New York City. The winning bid was $1.4 billion, or as Terry put it earlier in the week, "a hell of a deal - I got the team."
In a letter to fans, Ralph Wilson's widow, Mary Wilson, said, "We know the future is bright in Buffalo, and the Bills are in great hands." Read the letter here.
Sunday's game against the hated New England Patriots is sold out, and both teams are 3-2 and tied atop the AFC East. The Bills organization has asked fans to pack up their tailgates a little early and be in their seats by 12:40 p.m.
