Al Lewis

Former Denver Post business editor and columnist Al Lewis has been named editor in chief of the South Florida Business Journal, leading a team covering business news in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

He begins work on July 14.

The final installment of his column, "Al's Emporium," will appear July 13 in the The Wall Street Journal pages included in the Sunday Denver Post.

Lewis joined The Post in 2000, after serving as a business reporter at the Rocky Mountain News and business editor at The Gazette in Colorado Springs. Since leaving The Post in 2008, he has written for Dow Jones and The Wall Street Journal.

Lewis called the move to Florida bittersweet.

"My column has been in The Post, in one form or another, since 2001 and I love the readers. They have e-mailed me for years — some complimentary, some insulting, but it's fun to have that discourse," he said. "It's hard to walk away from that. But my career has always been characterized by writing, then editing, then writing. Now it's time for me to be an editor."

South Florida Business Journal is owned by Charlotte, N.C.-based American City Business Journals, which also owns the Denver Business Journal.
