Lykke’s Li’s Pity Party was mismatched with a “Let’s Party” act.

For OK Go it has always been about experimentation — both musically and visually. And thanks to this willingness to go out on a limb, the band has never been far out of the public eye, even though it’s been four years since their last album and tour.
The music video with Chevy for “Needing/Getting” was featured during Superbowl XLVII, and they covered the Muppets theme song as part of the Green Album. Last year, they released “I’m Not Through” (which will be on their new album) and worked with Saatchi & Saatchi for the 2013 edition of their Music Video challenge.
Most recently, OK Go released the mind-bending video for “The Writing’s on the Wall.” The video for the track off the band’s latest Upside Out EP features a series of dizzying optical illusions .
OK Go’s next full album, “Hungry Ghosts,” will be available in October.
Ahead of the band’s Aug. 9 show at the Gothic Theatre, Reverb caught up with OK Go frontman Damian Kulash to talk about the new album, “The Writing’s on the Wall” video and more.

Ted Leo ribs Aimee Mann for being a few minutes tardy to a phone interview.
“I’m usually the late one,” said Leo, 43, who’s known for his indie-punk work as a solo artist and with his band the Pharmacists. “But we’re both semi-responsible about different things. I think we pick up each others’ slack in the areas that we each lack. She’s better with a calendar, I’m better with a watch.”
The compatibility doesn’t end there. Mann and Leo’s new project, the Both, finds the acclaimed artists splitting duties between singing and songwriting, guitar playing and harmonizing. Their self-titled debut, released on April 15 on Superego, melds Mann’s literate folk with Leo’s thorny, sugary guitar work, resulting in a best-of-both-worlds listening experience.
We talked to Mann and Leo in advance the Both’s trio of Colorado dates this weekend at Boulder’s Fox Theatre on Aug. 8 (sold out), the Bluebird Theater on Aug. 9 and Aspen’s Belly Up Aug. 10.
