American / National SKILL
Joe Wieland - S - Padres

Joe Wieland (elbow) allowed one run over four innings Sunday in a rehab start at Double-A San Antonio.

Wieland yielded four hits and struck out two in the solid rehab outing. He's still on his way back from July 2012 Tommy John surgery -- requiring a followup arthroscopic procedure this spring -- and probably won't be an option for the Padres' rotation until the end of August.

Dan Uggla - 2B - Giants

Dan Uggla declined to report to Triple-A Fresno.

It was his right to do so as a nine-year major league veteran. Uggla will be released by the Giants and then return to the free agent market. The 34-year-old second baseman went 0-for-11 with six strikeouts in his four-game stint with San Francisco and he also made three errors in the field.

A.J. Burnett - S - Phillies

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that A.J. Burnett has been placed on revocable trade waivers.

Nearly every player in the majors hits waivers in August -- the ones that pass through can then be traded. Antonio Bastardo, Ryan Howard, Kyle Kendrick, and Roberto Hernandez have also been placed on the wire. The Phillies weren't active at the July 31 trade deadline, but they could move multiple pieces by August 31.

Yadier Molina - C - Cardinals

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Sunday that Yadier Molina (thumb) is making steady progress.

Molina underwent surgery in mid-July for a torn ligament in his right thumb and is not expected to return for at least another four weeks. "What we're hearing is good," Matheny told reporters on Sunday afternoon. "There’s not a lot going on. It’s just healing time." A.J. Pierzynski and Tony Cruz will continue to share time behind the plate for St. Louis.

Hector Sanchez - C - Giants

Hector Sanchez (concussion) has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Fresno.

Sanchez is finally free of concussion-related symptoms and should be back with the Giants by the end of this week if he's able to avoid further setbacks. The catcher has been out since taking a foul tip off the top of his mask on July 25.

Adam Russell - R - Reds

Reds released RHP Adam Russell.

Russell posted a 4.33 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, and 34/19 K/BB ratio in 35 1/3 innings at Triple-A Louisville. The 31-year-old hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2011.
Aug 4 - 10:28 AM
Wagner Mateo - OF - Diamondbacks

Diamondbacks released OF Wagner Mateo.

Mateo never made it past High-A in the Diamondbacks' system, batting .230/.312/.349 in 201 low-level minor league games. The Dominican outfielder was nearly signed by the Cardinals in 2009 for a bonus of $3.1 million, but that agreement was voided after he was found to have vision problems in his right eye during his pre-signing physical. The 21-year-old could be done with MLB-affiliated ball.

Graham Godfrey - S - Diamondbacks

Diamondbacks signed RHP Graham Godfrey to a minor league contract.

Godfrey hasn't appeared in the majors since 2012, when he registered a 6.43 ERA in 21 innings for Oakland. The 29-year-old right-hander will be depth at Triple-A Reno.
