PAWS Update

As one of the Philadelphia Eagles first TAWK grant recipients, we are excited to share the great successes of PAWS Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic. Since opening in March 2010, the clinic has served thousands of our city's pet owners with affordable spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations, wellness exams, and treatments for common illnesses. PAWS has spayed or neutered more than 2,200 of our city's pets at the state of the art clinic. The new clinic space has also allowed PAWS to rescue more than 1000 cats and dogs from the city's animal control shelter where euthanasia was imminent. The impact that PAWS Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic has on our community is astounding!

Located at 2900 Grays Ferry Avenue, PAWS opens its doors to other Philadelphia rescue organizations, providing low-cost services to maximize this lifesaving work. PAWS aims to keep pets healthy and allow them to remain as cherished family members in a safe home. The low cost spay and neuter services helps the clinic reduce the number of unwanted pets surrendered to shelters and aids in reducing the homeless animal population overall.

With additional support from the Animal Farm Foundation, PAWS offers spay and neuter surgery at an even lower cost to pit bulls and pit bull mixes. This effort is aimed at celebrating and serving Philadelphia's pit bull population, the dogs most vulnerable to neglect, fighting and over-population. To spread the word in communities most likely to need and benefit from these services, PAWS holds monthly Community Pet Days offering low-cost vaccinations, free microchips, and spay/neuter vouchers for pit bull owners. Providing these services, along with growing their adoption and foster care programs, are part of PAWS' mission to make Philadelphia a place where every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. In time, PAWS hopes to help make Philadelphia a no-kill city.
