Lately, children and teenagers, clients of Caritas Khmelnytskiy, together with professional photographers Anatoliy Ivanov and Andriy Kadlubenko, visited Ivano-Frankivsk and local Caritas. The visit was aimed to present a photo exhibition “Moments of our life” that includes nearly 40 the best photo works of children-clients. These youngsters have benefited from chargeless lessons of photography art provided by photographers-volunteers, and they actively participated in the exhibition organization.
Children, clients of Caritas Khmelnytskiy, have shared their experience with social workers of Caritas Ivano-Frankivsk and held educational course for clients to get them interested in work of photographer and training on photography art. The course was conducted with help of modern technologies and seized theoretical and practical parts.

Caritas Ukraine initiates legislative changes on inclusiveness of Ukrainian migrants in social and political life of the country

Round-table and presentation of the initiative concerning changes in legislation was recently held in Kyiv. The initiative will favor the inclusiveness of Ukrainian migrants in social and political life of the country and intermediation of their interests in Verkhovna Rada by means of full implementation of electoral law for country’s citizens that are temporarily living abroad (video). Grygoriy Seleshchuk, Director of Migration Service of Caritas Ukraine, actively took part in the event. He focused attention of the audience on the importance of personalized approach that means putting migrant and his/her needs on the first place.
Among the round-table organizers were Ukrainian World Coordinating Council, Committee of Voters in Ukraine, the UGCC Commission on migrants’ affairs, people’s deputies Oleg Kanivets, Oles Doniy, Andriy Shevchenko. Earlier deputies stated their intention to provide Ukrainians, who temporarily live abroad, with right to choose majority deputies. Nevertheless, real changes in legislation on this occasion haven’t happened yet.

Caritas Ukraine joined advocacy campaign “Open Doors for Europe’s Children” on children rights protection

Advocacy campaign “Open Doors for Europe’s Children” is being implemented on the European Union level and in 12 countries of Europe, including Ukraine. The campaign addresses the EU and governments of European countries to move from institutional system of children’s care to system, founded on upbringing in families. The initiative was officially launched on 6 June under guidance of two organizations - Eurochild (network of non-governmental organizations of European countries) and Hope and Homes for Children (international charitable organization ‘Hope and homes for children’).
“Open Doors for Europe’s Children” campaign is targeted to improve life of people who grow in specialized facilities (institutional care), might appear in such establishments and children who start independent life after orphanages. Campaign initiators are convinced: “It can be possible if we move from institutional care to upbringing in families (this process is well-known as deinstitutionalization)”.

Caritas in Kolomyia initiated the fundraising campaign for victims in Philippines

“In 2008 there was a catastrophe in Ukraine – the flood was ruthless. Great waters ruined houses of many Ukrainians, destroyed their farmsteads. In the darkest hour we received assistance from the whole world, humanitarian aid and money came from different countries. Now there is another disaster in Philippines. As a result of natural cataclysms many people died and thousands were left without means for living. We have to support them and get involved!” says Fr. Sergiy Tryfyak, Director of Caritas of Kolomyia-Chernivtsi Eparchy.
The series of typhoons and also detrimental typhoon Haiyan took lives of nearly 10 thousand people. Children, women, men and seniors found themselves in a trap. Millions of people were left without roof above their heads, and simply without drinking water.

Drawing conclusions of 3-year period of activities on care of labour migrants children in Novovolynsk

Review conference on project “Development of the Network of Social Centers for the Children of Labour Migrants” was held at the end of October in Novovolynsk. The project was implemented by “Caritas-Volyn” Volyn oblast charitable foundation since September 2010 till October 2013. The achievements of the project were displayed in form of presentations, in particular “Results of social project in activities with labour migrants children”; booklet “Think about your child before going abroad” and “School of financial education and basics of entrepreneurial work for children of 7-10 forms”.
The event was aimed to strike the balance on 3-year period of work, present results of activities that were implemented, exchange experience with specialists on work with children. Almost 20 people participated in the conference: vice-principles on character building work in educational establishments of the city, representatives of the education administration, social and state services, central city library, local media and TV.
