Roundtable On ‘Harmonization Of Legislation With European Union: Legal Innovation’ (13:00, Tuesday, January 21, 2014)

Ukrainian News Agency

A ROUNDTABLE on the topic “Harmonization of the Legislation with the European Union: Legal Innovation" cancelled PRESS CENTER of the Ukrainian News information agency at 13:00 on Tuesday, January 21.

The Ukrainian parliament has adopted a series of legislative innovations in the areas of maintenance of public order, criminal processes, and administrative processes, as a result of which emotional debates and discussions have exploded in the information media. Several leading experts argue that such rules are common international practice and comply with European standards. We will ask political and economic experts, sociologists, and analysts whether this is really the case.

The following issues will be addressed during the roundtable:

  • What is the generally accepted European practice in the area of maintenance of public order and in particular during mass events?
  • What were the major differences between Ukraine and the European Union on this issue?
  • On which specific EU countries did Ukrainian parliamentarians orient when adopting these norms?
  • What is the world practice regarding the work of governments with NGOs funded from abroad?
  • How true is the opinion that these rules can lead to a strengthening of authoritarian tendencies and curtailment of democracy in our country?

    Speakers:

  • Oleksandr Okhrimenko. President of the Ukrainian Analytical Center.
  • Dmytro Dzhanhirov. Political expert.
  • Vadym Karasiov. Director of the Institute of Global Strategies.
  • Vladyslav Starynets. Economist.
  • Michael Krasiuk. Political expert.
  • Yury Kochevenko. Political expert.

The address of the press center: 20, Esplanadna Street (Palats Sportu subway station), first floor.
