Should priests run for office?
The Ukrainian parliamentary election campaigns have once again raised the question of clerical participation in politics. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) and the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church have forbidden their clergy to run for office. But historically, bishops and priests not only engaged in political activity, but held both legislative and executive positions. Why should they not do so now?

Should the Church have secrets?
The announcement that the upcoming Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church would be held in secret once again raises the question of whether secrecy in the Church is a good thing or not. In fact, one of the themes of the journalism conference to be held in Lviv on October 20 is “transparency” in the Church.

Ranking Influence and People of the Church
The ranking of the most influential people is much more subjective than the ranking of, say, rich people. Influence cannot always be measured in money nor can it be tied to a step in the hierarchical ladder – in the ranking of the one hundred most influential Ukrainians by the magazine Korrespondent rich people sometimes are outranked by less rich people, and a minister may be outranked by a vice prime minister.

Third International Congress ‘Young Europeans for a World without Violence’ meets in Krakow
On September 20-23, 2012 1,500 young people, university and high school students from Italy, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine, and Czech Republic, gathered at the congress in Krakow at the initiative of the Community of Sant'Egidio.
