More information
NSC Olimpiyskiy - it is not just the EURO 2012 main venue to host the tournament final, but it is also the largest stadium at the European championship. More than 70,000 fans can be seated on the stands of the renovated arena, though during the tournament itself UEFA will use only 68,055 seats.
The Olimpiyskiy – it is a multipurpose sports arena for both football matches and athletics competitions of international level. The "Queen of Sports" offers eight racetracks, sectors for the long jump and throwing the javelin, hammer and drive, shot put, and areas for pole vaults and high jump.
The NSC is one of the two stadiums, along with the Arena Lviv, to have been built with funds of central budget. Accordingly, the government took personal control of development and implementation of a sports complex marketing program. It is also planned, in addition to sporting events (football, athletics, boxing), to conduct on the arena concerts, mass-cultural events, entertainment shows. The NSC operating team pays much attention to business events that can be held in several halls (“Citius”, “Altius”, “Fortius”, “Sprint”, “The Hall of Champions", etc.) that are located in the conference area.
On that day, along with the grand show, the viewers saw a performance by the global star Shakira. One month later - 11 November - the stadium hosted the first football event – a friendly between the national teams of Ukraine and Germany. With Ukraine and Germany sharing an enthralling 3-3 draw, an attendance record was set on the refreshed Olimpiyskiy - the game was attended by 69,720 spectators.
The arena is waiting for new records in June and July 2012 with the NSC to host five EURO 2012 matches - three Group D games, a quarter-final and the UEFA EURO 2012 final itself. |
