Raiffeisen Bank Aval’s Corporate Social Responsibility

Raiffeisen Bank Aval continued its charity and sponsorship activities by supporting socially important projects and providing assistance to those who need it.

The Bank’s charitable projects focus on providing assistance to charities supporting child’s institutions and healthcare facilities, veteran organisations, institutions for the elderly and the disabled. Apart from that, the Bank regularly provides focused charitable aid to healthcare institutions, preschools and schools, orphanages, social security inst³tutions, NGOs, local authorities, etc.

Raiffeisen Bank Aval also does its best to accommodate individual requests for assistance, in the first place those made by WWII veterans, Afghan war veterans, disabled and elderly people, orphans.

The largest projects sponsored by Raiffeisen Bank Aval during 2007 included the renovation of the Transcarpathian regional hospital for children in Mukacheve and procurement of equipment for its infectious diseases ward as well as building and equipping a playground for children in Ivano-Frankivsk.

The Bank is also committed to providing social protection to orphans and disabled children. During 2007, the Bank donated money to support two projects initiated by Saint Mary’s International Charitable Foundation: a charitable tour around dozens of orphanages and boarding schools, charitable gala concert Easter Bells for orphans and disabled children at the Ukrainian House, and all-Ukrainian arts contest among boarding schoolgirls Snow Maiden 2007. The Bank also sponsored the campaign Ukraine's Children Have a Future initiated by the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sport of Ukraine.

Raiffeisen Bank Aval also promotes Ukraine’s science and education. In 2007, the Bank sponsored an education project for orphans launched by the Children’s Friends charity, provided university scholarships to talented students — orphans as initiated by the Brotherhood of Orphans charity, sponsored internships for young Ukrainian doctors in Austria, organized by an American-Austrian Foundation based in Salzburg (Austria), etc. The Bank also continued to support students and teachers of the Kyiv National Economic University (KNEU) and the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy"(NaUKMA) by sponsoring Vadim Hetman scholarships for best students and monthly grants for teachers. Based on a contest held among students majoring in economics, the Bank awarded three scholarships to KNEU students. In November 2007, three grants were awarded to teachers and one scholarship to a student of NaUKMA.

Throughout the year, the Bank contributed to resolving healthcare and social protection challenges for public benefit. The Bank consistently sponsored the Food of Life charity to help procure food for their charitable canteen, contributed to programmes delivered by the Garant charity to help the poor, and provided financial support to a project involving procurement of equipment to treat cancer in women through the Woman’s Health charitable foundation, and sponsored a trip for the Vizerunki band of poor-sighted singers to a song contest in the town of Kerch (Crimea) organised by Ukraine’s Association of the Blind, etc.

Raiffeisen Bank Aval is also committed to spiritual development of the young generation: in the bank sponsored the publication of Sunny Malvia, a literary miscellany for children and a release of DVDs with Ukrainian fairy tales, which were delivered to orphanages and boarding schools.

The Bank also frequently provides charitable assistance to healthcare facilities, schools and preschool institutions in the form of computer and office hardware.

Actively involved in charitable activities was not only the Bank's Head Office but also its regional directorates. For example: the Odessa Regional Directorate supported Orphanage No. 9 of Odessa City by organising a New Year's celebration for children; the Mykolayiv Regional Directorate initiated an award for talented children of School No.22 of Mykolayiv City; the Lugansk Regional Directorate sponsored the Renaissance Centre for Early Social Rehabilitation of Disabled Children. The Lviv Regional Directorate continued sponsoring the National Maria Zankovetska Theatre and participated in the charitable Auction of Hope, the proceeds were used to procure equipment for infant treatment. The Ivano-Frankivsk RD helped to build several playgrounds; the Donetsk RD sponsored the Children's Fund of Ukraine to procure clothes and footwear for orphans; Poltava RD continued its assistance to the Poltava Arts Museum; Kherson RD went on sponsoring the Shevchenko Boarding School.

During the year, Raiffeisen Bank Aval also sponsored a number of major projects. The Bank focused on long-term sponsorship projects aimed at promoting Ukrainian culture, arts, education, science and sports.
