"“Psal’mas. Pomyshliayte, Chelovetsy”, 5th album, 2009.

It represents Ukrainian sacred world music – “psal’mas”. Psal’ma is a folk song of sacred sense. They are closed to church music with melody but they have folk images and texts. Contents of many of psal’mas have no straight connection with Bible.
There are 8 psal’mas presented on the CD. They originate from Eastern Ukraine. Approximate time of origin – 17-18th centuries.

Bozhychi performs psal’mas without arrangement in authentic manner.
Duration is 42 minutes 28 seconds.

DVD – book “School of Traditional Ukrainian Folk Dance. Part 1.” (2009)

Finally the long-awaited DVD-book on traditional dance have been published. The duration of DVD is 72 minutes. The basic dance steps, methods of dancing by individuals and pairs and explanations of the main dances are given in the DVD. There are 22 dances from 7 central and north oblasts of Ukraine.

"Ukrainian Folk Dance. Part 1" (2009)

This album is the result of creative cooperation of instrumental part of folk band «Bozhychi» and violinist Serhiy Okhrimchuk. “Triple muzikas” or “triple musicians” features melodies from all over Ukraine, representing a wide array of regions. . From the very outset, our interest was to absorb the spirit of folk performance, demonstrated in this compact disc and, in particular, the violin, the garmon’ (type of the accordion) and the tambourine ensemble, which had been widespread in Ukraine since the beginning of the 20th century. Retaining the core principles of musical performance, inherent to “triple muzikas” (as one folk performer noted , «triple musicians» entails triple music) was possible, primarily due to the active folk expeditionary research carried out by the trio. As in traditional «triplets», every instrument plays its own unique melody, while maintaining and changing it with each performance.
Hand-made instruments such as the violin – crafted in the Zhytomyr Polissya after WWII and the garmon’ “Vienka”, from the beginning of the 20th century are all tuned to convey the very sounding of “triple muzikas”.
The “Vienka” garmon’, or, in other words the Viennese or German pitch came to Ukraine from Western Europe. In Ukraine “Vienkas” assimilated rapidly, and began to maintain Ukrainian features of performance which differed from those of Western European traditions.
The melodies of dance which feature in this album were recorded in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Sumy, Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Serhiy Okhrimchuk is a poli-styled violinist-virtuoso. He plays both folk as well as jazz, rock, and avant-garde. He performs with many prominent Ukrainian and foreign performers and bands such as Oleh Skrypka, “Okean Elzy”, Ruslana, “Red Cardell” and Dimitri Naїditch (France) etc.
